Maize Morphology and Grain Yield Affected by Leaf Removal

Abstract

Increasing planting density is an important practice associated with increases in maize yield, but densely planted maize can suffer from poor light conditions. In our two-year field experiment, we investigated the effects of leaf removal on maize morphology and grain yield. The results showed that leaf removal significantly affected maize morphology, including plant height, leaf area, and root growth. Furthermore, leaf removal also had a significant impact on grain yield, with a 10% increase in grain yield observed in the leaf removal treatment compared to the control. These findings suggest that leaf removal can be a useful strategy for improving maize yield and morphology, but further research is needed to fully understand its effects.
