Understanding Longevity and Glucose Tolerance

Abstract

Families predisposed to longevity show enhanced glucose tolerance and skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity compared with controls, independent of body composition and physical activity. Intramyocellular lipid content is lower in these families. This study highlights the importance of glucose metabolism in longevity and suggests that interventions targeting glucose metabolism may be beneficial for healthy aging.
