A Functional Analysis of the Purine Salvage Pathway in Acetobacter fabarum
Abstract
Acetobacter are commonly found in the gut microbiota of fruit flies, including Drosophila melanogaster . We evaluated the function of purine salvage genes in Acetobacter fabarum to test the hypothesis that this bacterium can utilize host metabolites as a source of nitrogen.
