Colección Sipuncula del Museo de Historia Natural Marina de Colombia – Makuriwa (Invemar)

Abstract

The Marine Natural History Museum of Colombia guards among its biological material the Sipuncula Collection, which was created in 2006 from some 20 lots with specimens obtained in shallow environments through environmental evaluation studies carried out in previous years (2003) by Invemar. The collection is currently made up of about 300 lots, represented by 99% by specimens from the Colombian Caribbean, which have been obtained between 0.2 and 3820 m deep, from environments of soft sedimentary bottoms and seagrasses. Although in recent years different studies have included the Sipuncula as an order within the Annelida phylum, and even recently the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) has adopted this change in its taxonomic tree; the MHNMC currently maintains recognition of the collection under the traditional scheme as a phylum. The present data set includes 287 biological records of cataloged specimens.
