Flora de las Barrancas del Cobre

Abstract

Debido a la poca información disponible de la vegetación de la Sierra Tarahumara, en lo que se conoce como Baja Tarahumara, se determinó la necesidad de generar la información florística para acrecentar el acervo botánico de México. No obstante que existen trabajos sobre plantas vasculares de la Alta Tarahumara, estos no arrojan información completa sobre las especies debido a la diferencia de clima que domina en las dos regiones, siendo una dominada por un bosque tropical caducifolio y la otra por bosques de pino-encinos. La Baja Tarahumara o Barrancas del Cobre ocupa una superficie de 126,653 hectáreas, ubicada geográficamente entre los 27º00'00"Lat. N.Y.107º45'00" Long. W. Se pretende hacer un inventario florístico de la zona, recolectando especies en forma sistematizada desde las regiones adyacentes de la Alta Tarahumara hasta la Baja Tarahumara. Los ejemplares de plantas recolectadas serán depositados en tres herbarios diferentes: Herbario de la Facultad de Zootecnia (CHIH) Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua, Herbario de la Universidad Estatal de Nuevo México (NMC), Herbario Nacional (MEXU) y el Herbario del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (ENCB).
