MUFAL herbarium - Universidade Federal de Alagoas - Herbário Virtual REFLORA

Abstract

Established in 1970, the Prof. Honório Monteiro Herbarium of the Museum of Natural History belongs to the Botany Department and houses 3,560 dried plant specimens (exsiccatae), approximately 70% of which originate from Alagoas. The herbarium was initiated by Professor Rosário Rocha at the Center for Biological Sciences of the Federal University of Alagoas (CCBI-UFAL). It was only in the 2000s that the collection was transferred to the Museum of Natural History (MHN), where it remains today. The collection primarily results from floristic surveys conducted in the Atlantic Forest and Caatinga biomes. However, it also includes specimens from various Brazilian states and even other countries, such as Argentina and Bolivia, received through donations. The Prof. Honório Monteiro Herbarium is digitized, and its collection can be accessed online at: http://mufal.jbrj.gov.br/.
