Abstract

O herbário “André Maurício V. de Carvalho” CEPEC possui um acervo com c. 160.000 exsicatas, o segundo maior da região nordeste do Brasil. Possui atualmente c. 3.000 tipos-nomenclaturauis (espécimes usados para propor novas nomes), muitos exclusivos da Mata Atlântica do sul da Bahia, uma das regiões com maior riqueza mundial de espécies e elevado grau de endemismo. Foi criando em 1965 com o propósito de documentar a flora do sul da Bahia, região ainda pouco conhecida na época. Mantém principalmente coleções oriundas da Mata Atlântica do sul da Bahia e norte do Espírito Santo, a chamada “Hiléia Baiana” que inclui registros da Restinga, Floresta Ombrófila densa de terras baixas, submontanas e montanas. Possui também significativas e importantes coletas da Caatinga e do Cerrado incluindo os campus rupestres, especialmente de áreas da Cadeia do Espinhaço. Também está associada à coleção uma xiloteca (CEPECw) com 367 amostras de madeiras, a maioria da região sul da Bahia.
