Abstract

O Herbário VIC foi fundado em 1930, por Ynes Mexia. Ele está sob a responsabilidade do Departamento de Biologia Vegetal, da UFV-Universidade Federal de Viçosa. É um herbário regional, com 54.000 espécimes e 42 exemplares-tipo, sendo o terceiro acervo do Estado de Minas Gerais. Botânicos ilustres depositaram parte de suas coleções no acervo do VIC, como: Agnes Chase, Howard S. Irwin e J. G. Kuhlmann. Seu acervo é constituído por algas, fungos e plantas, principalmente, Angiospermas provenientes de diversos ecossistemas do estado de Minas Gerais: caatinga, campo rupestre, cerrado, florestas semideciduais e ombrófilas incluídas no domínio da Floresta Atlântica, bem como, de outras regiões do Brasil.
