EU Habitat directive species monitoring MECDD, Recorder-Lux database
Article 17 requires Member States to report every six years about the progress made with the implementation of the Habitats Directive. As the main objective of the directive is on maintaining and restoring a favourable conservation status for habitat types & species of community interest, monitoring & reporting under Article 17 is focusing on capturing the status and trends of these habitat types and species. Monitoring of conservation status is an obligation arising from Article 11 of the Habitats Directive for all habitats (as listed in Annex I) and species (as listed in Annex II, IV and V) of Community interest. Text taken from http://ec.europa.eu/environment/nature/knowledge/rep_habitats/index_en.html The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development (MECDD) entrusted the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) with the charge of elaborating the scheme to document the changing state of biodiversity in the wider countryside, using vascular plants, freshwater invertebrates, butterflies, breeding birds and bats as indicator species groups. The occurrence recodes in this dataset were previously contained in the GBIF dataset: Collections and observation data National Museum of Natural History Luxembourg https://www.gbif.org/dataset/962f59bc-f762-11e1-a439-00145eb45e9a
