Kangaroo Island Insect Collection

Abstract

This collection, and its associated database, were established in 1998 by Richard Glatz to document the insect fauna of Kangaroo Island, and aid study of the island?s insect ecology and biogeography. As of 2024, it contains >70,000 specimens and >16,000 records can be accessed through Atlas of Living Australia. Approximately 85% of specimens are from Kangaroo Island but there are specimens from elsewhere in Australia and overseas; this includes paratypes for seven species described from the island. It is held by D?Estrees Entomology & Science Services in a fire-resistant building on Kangaroo Island. Specimens are available for loan.
