Estimation of Cod Movements in the Northern Gulf (3Pn, 4RS) in the Strait of Belle Isle

Abstract

This is the OBIS extraction of the Ocean Tracking Network and Fish Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW) Estimation of Cod Movements in the Northern Gulf (3Pn, 4RS) in the Strait of Belle Isle, consisting of the release tagging metadata, i.e. the location and date when the tagged animal was released, and summarized detection events of tagged individuals. If readers are interested in the source dataset they may also inquire with the project PIs as listed here or on the OTN web site (https://members.oceantrack.org/project?ccode=SBICOD).Abstract:The Atlantic cod stock in the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence has increased slightly in recent years. As in the past, there are large concenrations of cod near the Strait of Belle Isle. In addition, high fall catch rates in the northeaster Gulf of St. Lawrence may be explained by the migration or mixing of fish stocks. The project will improve knowledge of the migrations of the Atlantic cod stock in the northern Gulf (NAFO divisions 4RS3Pn) and the adjacent stock (Northern Cod, divisions 2J3KL) through teh Strait of Belle Isle.
