Inventario florístico en Baja California Sur: Región del Cabo e Islas adyacentes

Abstract

La Región del Cabo de Baja California Sur es una importante área natural, la caracterizan su aislamiento geográfico y el estar ubicada bajo la línea del trópico, por lo que recibe influencia ambiental tanto del trópico seco como del Desierto Sonorense. La superficie de la región se delimitó en 8,500 km2. La presencia de una importante elevación, la Sierra de La Laguna (hasta 2100 m) permite la existencia de diferentes comunidades vegetales en el gradiente altitudinal: el bosque de pino-encino, el bosque de encino, la selva baja caducifolia, el matorral sarcocaule, y las agrupaciones costeras. El proyecto ha permitido profundizar en el conocimiento de su flora y vegetación. En la actualidad, la flora de esta región se ha establecido en 1088 taxa, de las cuales 16% son endémicos.
