Diptera Collection of Richard Frey (MZH/Luomus, Helsinki, Finland)
Richard Frey's worldwide Diptera collection. Ca. 10.000 species, including type material of some 700 taxa. Mostly material acquired by Frey, but some species have been added in the 1960s. After Frey's death, the Finnish material has been removed and placed in the Diptera East Fennoscandia collection of MZH. A preliminary catalogue of species/taxa names is available for this collection: https://tietopankki.luomus.fi/species-lists-in-luomus/insect-lists-of-luomus-collections/coll-richard-frey-mzh-fmnh-luomus-taxon-list-part-1-xylophagidae-to-dolichopodidae/. See links on the page for subsequent parts of the catalogue. A majority of the type specimens have been databased, but not photographed. Data is available through GBIF (dataset https://www.gbif.org/dataset/489cf6d8-4171-46bd-94b1-ca514fb2043f) and the Finnish National Biodiversity Portal FinBIF (https://laji.fi/en/observation/map?collectionId=HR.163). Frey himself. Most specimens have not been examined after Frey's death in the 1950s, thus the identifications are largely sensu circa 1920-1955.
