How Negerhollands is the eighteenth century variety of Negerhollands?

The aim of my research will be to investigate the extent to which eighteenth-century Negerhollands as used by missionaries and slaves, is a correct reflection of the spoken language of the Virgin Islands at that time by using the Corpus Negerhollands as a basis. Through the analysis of metalinguistic comments, the comparison of texts and the study of the use of annotations in the manuscripts I hope to gain insight into the process of translating texts into the creole language, the influence of informal Dutch, education and mission on the development of Negerhollands.
