Struggle Against Values Extinction

Description

”Struggle Against Values Extinction” (SAVE) is a project aimed to help pupils get to know and value their local identity, traditions, culture and every aspect of their heritage while promoting the awareness of being part of a larger cultural framework, as well. We expect this project will motivate pupils and teachers to widen their knowledge about the lifestyles of our European neighbours, foreign languages and use of new technologies while encouraging genuine tolerance and friendship. The overall aim of the project is to develop an individual and collective identity, by promoting the appreciation of cultural heritage through strategies that foster intercultural dialogue between European schools. The objectives pursued are to develop the capacity to identify and preserve cultural heritage, increase the acceptance of cultural diversity, promoting democracy, peace and tolerance, increase the preservation of cultural heritage by bringing ancient crafts and customs back to life, improve geographical, historical and architectural knowledge about European Cities, increase the understanding of linguistic and cultural similarities between partner countries, increase the degree of integration of cultural heritage in education by interdisciplinary activities and implementing new optional courses, improve language, ICT and cross curricular skills, encourage pupils to develop critical thinking, strengthen their independence and increase self-esteem, self-confidence and sense of cooperation, and increase the internationalization of the school by aligning with European policies in the field of education and culture. The main beneficiaries of the project are pupils of partner schools, between the ages of 11 and 15 years and teachers from Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Turkey whose experience and expertise in the field of education will prove very valuable in the run-up of this project. The project activities include: setting up Erasmus Cultural Heritage Clubs, where children will do research projects, work on project material, and organize artistic activities, film viewing, workshops, and online activities with pupils from partner countries; creating a cultural tourism guidebook entitled ”Culture and Heritage Across Europe”, brochures, presentations, UNESCO Cultural Maps, photo albums, recipes, videos and audio recordings; organizing the Folk Heritage Festival; composing an “Etymological Dictionary”; organizing meetings with the elders, parents and cultural authorities to rediscover and revive lost traditions; implementing an optional course entitled “National Culture and Tradition – Identity Passport in the Big European Family” which will benefit from project acquisitions. The methodology used is designed to engage pupils in project activities and mobilities, to boost their confidence in using languages familiar and interesting to them, to stir their interest in other peoples’ culture, which will result in the acceptance of diversity, increased tolerance among pupils and teachers, preservation of cultural heritage, resurrection of legends, games, recipes, dances and old songs, better knowledge of European Cities, sustainable understanding of content and improvement of school performance, integration in the learning activities of pupils’ critical and analytical thinking. The impact that the results obtained from carrying out the project activities will have is expected to be strong, producing changes in individuals, institutions, local community and educational factors. Both during and after the project has been completed, all those involved will become more aware of their own cultural heritage and national identity, understanding how their country fits into the European Union as a whole and this will lead to: the consolidation of the European dimension of schools and improvement of school image at local, national and European level; the creation of links between pupils involved in project and mobility activities, permanent relations established between them by carrying out subsequent joint projects; the improvement of teachers’ social and organizational skills needed for their professional development; the continuation of partnerships between schools after completion of this project, taking advantage of the experience gained in developing other educational projects; the development of a positive attitude of parents toward school and toward European values; the promotion of closer ties with local authorities and cultural institutions in the area involved in the project.Sharing project results in the long run will enable others to benefit from the activities and experience of our project. Dissemination and exploitation of long-term results can serve as an example and contribute to the acquisition of good practices. Therefore, we will ensure that the results of the project will be widely available over a long period of time.
