In addition to the Škofijska gimnazija Vipava (Diocesan Gymnasium Vipava), which is the applicant organisation, the Lycee Pierre Termier of Grenoble took part in this project called Language in Motion. We decided to cooperate with Pierre Termier because we already had some contacts before and wanted to choose a school with English as a first foreign language and with a strong desire to encourage transversal key competence of communication both in the mother tongue and in a foreign language. This project was a response to the lack of communication skills of our students. The students themselves expressed a wish to pay more attention to rhetoric and enhancing communication skills because many of them have a fear of public speaking. In addition, more and more students have difficulties in expressing themselves both in their mother tongue and foreign languages. The trend is that their language knowledge becomes increasingly better, however, they experience difficulties in the active use of the language and the gap between those who do better and those who lag behind is becoming wider and wider. Students with learning difficulties were also included in the project. The project lasted two years and about 200 students of both participating schools took part in the activities held in the course of the project. The project aimed to improve the communication skills of students and language-related extra-curricular activities and to increase the number of students taking part in these activities (our aim was that there will be 15% more students participating in these activities by the end of the project - we suceeded in this). In addition, the project aimed to boost the publishing activity of both schools; in the course of the project we published 12 publications dealing with current social issues (in the form of a school newspapers-magazines), 3 of them were bilingual; literary publications were not publised separately - students' poems and essays were mainly included into publications mentioned above. We organised some events to promote reflection on the use of language, for example during one of the LTT meetings in Slovenia the students had a chance to meet and talk with the well known Slovenian journalist and translator Alenka Puhar. The young also had the opportunity to get in touch with the local, regional and even national media (visit to media houses, writing articles to be published). As for the extracurricular activities, we tried to improve the existing offer and invite/attract new students into it. The following extracurricular activities were: journalism, rhetoric, theatre, literature and a group discussing current issues. The so-called plans for these extracurricular activities that promote the use of language and acquisition of communication skills were described in our intellectual result (O1). Students' literary contribution that was produced in the course of the project was either publised in our regular school publications (mentioned above), or - the best pieces of literature was also publised online (O2). This project included also two multiplier events (E). The events took place at the end of the project and were dedicated to presenting the project itself and even more, to presenting project results (O1), meaning the e-book with the title Language in Motion - Language related extracurricular activities at Škofijska gimnazija Vipava and Lycee Pierre Termier and its Slovenian version with the title Z besedo na poti - dodatne jezikovne dejavnosti na Škofijski gimnaziji Vipava in Liceju Pierre Termier. The French school presented a brochure with the title Langues en mouvement. At both events (E) the O2 (Students' literary contributions) was also presented to the visitors. In addition, we carried out four exchanges (two in Slovenia and two in France) with (minimum) fourteen guest students and two teachers attending each of them. During their seven-day stay at their partners, they attended lessons, visited the media, worked on various projects, discussed how to carry out some projects together, shared good practice, communicated with each other using English, etc. As already stressed before, the project aimed at arousing the interest in language learning and mastering the mother tongue, improving our attitude towards languages in general and above all to our mother tongues, enabling the young to spend time with their peers from abroad and communicate in a foreign language and, last but not least, encouraging students to participate in language-related activities. The project strived to be an example of good partnership and cooperation.Web pages:- Škofijska gimnazija Vipava: http://www.sgv.si/language-in-motion/- Licej Pierre Termier, Grenoble: http://www.lycee-pierretermier.org/erasmusplus.html
