Does ubiquitination of cGLR2 play a key role in establishing an antiviral response in Drosophila melanogaster?

Description

We recently identified the protein cGLR2, which plays a key role in recognizing viruses and initiating an immune response towards the intruding viruses in insects. With support from the Carlsberg Foundation, we will investigate how cGLR2 recognizes viral infection. We proposes that cGLR2 recognizes a novel ligand, which is not derived from the virus itself but already exist within insect cells. We believe that changes occurring within the cell as a consequence of the viral infection stabilizes cGLR2, which are otherwise rapidly degraded, and liberate the ligand which activate cGLR2. What? Why? How?
