'What makes the difference?' aimed to observe, shadow and learn from best practice in 4 countries focusing on how schools have developed the most effective curriculum, pupil independence, critical thinking and the teaching strategies of feedback, metacognition and peer learning. The Lead Personnel in all 4 countries had been actively involved in innovative practice and had some prior experience in collaboration and engagement in transnational activity. Objectives; •To observe best practice in outstanding schools and develop practice with own pupils based on observation, shadowing and training.•To develop new and enhanced pedagogy and practice based on our learning activities and research.•To share practice through a range of intellectual outputs and dissemination activities.Number and profile of participating organisations;UK: Lightwoods Primary School is a two- form entry primary school (4-11). Approximately 45% of pupils are from ethnic minority backgrounds and 5% of pupils are identified as having special educational needs. The school is in the West Midlands and lies in the borough of Sandwell - a socially deprived area. The school delivers education based on the national curriculum in England. The school’s strengths are in developing and delivering creative and innovative approaches to learning which it shares with many schools in England. Iceland: Sæmundarskóli is school for 465 students (6-16) in a new area of Reykjavik city called Grafarholt. There is an average number of students with special needs with approximately 20% of students comes from other countries, (and this is increasing.Sæmundarskoli has a newly built open plan school building. The emphasis is on outdoor education, integrating art and crafts with other subjects and about quality and consistency throughout the school years. Finland: Laanila school is a secondary school with 330 pupils aged 13 – 16. We have only a few pupils with ethnic backgrounds and a small group of pupils with special needs. At the start of the programme the school was preparing for a new curriculum - being facilitated by being involved in a project called New Pedagogies for Deep Learning. It is also a well-being school, co-operating with other authorities including health care and social services and known for good work in student’s participation. Spain: Ieso De La Pola De Gordon is a 11-16 secondary school situated in a rural area in the north- west of Spain. with 77 students and 23 teachers. We have some students with special needs and students with a different ethnic background. Due to the economic crisis and to the disintegration of the coal mining business, the families of our students are suffering adverse conditions. . The school runs a very ambitious project on the development of reading skills and habits, which can be adapted to any school. The school organises literature, music and arts activities with well- known writers and artists in the country that are open to the public, in order to integrate the school in its social environment. •Description of undertaken main activities; 4 Project meetings, attended by 2 lead co-ordinators were held to plan and monitor each of the learning visits allowing project work and activities to be collated and gave time for evaluation, reflection and sharing impact.During the Learning Visits, 2 teachers from each visiting country took part in training and shadowing opportunities to enable them to reflect, and evaluate their practice. The host countries were able to involve significant numbers of their own staff during these visits. Subsequently the visiting teachers returned home to develop projects informed by the observed pedagogies. The outcomes of these trial project activities were a series of case studies uploaded onto the Padlet platform.•Results and impact attained;oNew and enhanced understanding of pedagogy, supporting an increased repertoire of strategies and skills, and integration of best practice.oCase studies showcasing the learning journey of the teachers, detailing the adaptations and contextualisation of their learning from the visits.oVideo clips and a toolkit of resources will also be developed to support teachers and shared on websites.oAdditional training and working groups were offered in each of the countries to further develop the learning opportunities for teachers and centred around innovative curricula, independence and meta cognition. •If relevant, longer-term benefits. In every school the project work and activities were shared with the wider school community through presentations, assemblies and displays and CPD for staff. Across the 4 schools approx. 600 pupils, 50 teachers and 50 additional staff directly benefited from the project. Many other schools will have opportunity to share in training developed from the project by the partners through case studies shared on each partners website and eTwinning. Please be concise and clear.

The project 'Europeanize Yourself One Europe One People' is a 24 month-European project based on exchanging about multiculturalism and discovering others through the use of sports. The partner countries are Portugal, Ireland, Sweden and Iceland, countries with cultural similitudes when it comes to Northern Europe countries or when it comes to so-called 'Mediterranean countries'. Yet, they can also be opposite when it comes to culture, customs and traditions and languages. The main objectives of the project are numerous. First, one of the main objectives is to prove open to other cultures, espcially through the use of sports, which seems like a unifying theme that can dynamise the students and the project. In addition to this, a more cultural, social objective is planned by learning about other cultures. Then the project also aims at creating a real European network of students who will be able to live and work together, which could also help gaining self-confidence. As far as languages are concerned, there is a double objective : on the one hand, the project aims at developping the use of English as a communication tool between all partners and correspondants and then, on the other hand, it aims at discovering the languages from each country (Icelandic, Swedish, French, Portuguese, Gaelic). Concerning the teachers and staff members, the main objective is to lead both groups and activities in a foreign language, to prepare the students to meet youngsters from other countries and to work with European partners and create educational projects and share best practices. This Erasmus+ project also wants to strengthen cultural exchanges, inter-disciplinary work, and on a wider scale, aims at reflecting in European web on building up classes, using European competencies, modify methods, practices and validating skills. About the main activities, the project consists in organising and using sports activities, typical and traditional games, cultural visits and observing classes and multicutural workshops. All activities will be led in mixed groups so as to get to know about each other and in order to communicate with everyone. Some activities will take place at school, in workshops and others outdoors when it comes to museum visits, cultural visits. Some associations will also come and help organise traditional or more dynamic activities or even reflexion times about diversity. To conclude, the results and impacts have been reached and have led to some long term results such as the creation of a European week in each partner country, more exchanges, a second Erasmus+ project started in 2017 with Portugal about sharing science and maths good practices, the promotion of languages and more inter-disciplinary projects. In the long run, it will be more meaningful for students in class who will also benefit from a more cultural open-mindedness , for example they could go on professional trainings throughout Europe or go study abroad. As far as teachers are concerned, they have the possibility to start KA1 projects between teachers, more communication in general on the etwinning platform for example and also apply to new Erasmus+ cooperation projects. They can also keep in touch and organise exchanges as has been the tradition since 2010 at Collège Icare.

Let´s take care of our land! The need to take care of our land - planet is obvious. Global warming is serious issue, so is many other environmental issues such as ecosystem degradation. The issue is very relevant as our youth is getting more aware of the environmental crisis we are facing. We want to build on that interest and provide the young generation an opportunity to learn how to take care of their land. They also need to believe that they can have impact on the issue so that our children in the future can protect their land and also find ways to live in it.We will share knowledge between different European countries about how the challenges on land care are different. But still the task is combined, it´s about taking care of our land and our planet, it´s about our ecosystem, it´s about sustainable development. We will also learn about how our land is important to job creation, economic growth and social cohesion. At last we will get the opportunity of going abroad and seeing and feeling the way of living in other European countries. Living in others homes, eating their food, made by their land, feeling the landscape and learning about the geology is important factor. In the visit to Iceland we will focus on fighting against desertification and importance of using land responsibly. Also on how the harsh nature in Iceland affect land. In Iceland we will also learn about green energy use, why it´s possible in Iceland to produce hot water and electricity from use of water. We will cooperate with the The Soil Conservation Service of Iceland .In the visit to Portugal we will focus on reforesting after wood fires. Why wood fires happen and how it´s possible to grow plant ourselves to plant in the land. As the school already has a greenhouse where they already grow plants to do this it will provide a learning opportunity. We will cooperate with RAIZ - Forest and Paper Research Institute and gain knowledge about solution for the forest based bio economy. In Finland we will have the approach of the forest industry, paper and turf and how it affects our living environment especially swamps and the insects. We will learn how the insects are important for the ecosystem. We have a teachers teaching in Oulu Education Services about those things so he will held a small seminar for the teachers when in Oulu. In Spain we will learn about the coal mines, how they use to be and why they closed down in Northern Spain. We will also learn about abandonment of the agricultural and cattle industry and how this affects the people living in the area. This will demonstrate how the issue is complicated and what is good for the environment can be a real challenge in people lives. Fundación de Reserva de la Biosfera Alto Bernesga and Ayuntamiento de La Pola de Gordon will be working with us. In Lithuania the focus will be on preserve the peatlands and wet forests. How the ecosystem in peatlands and wet forests are and how we the men are part of the nature and responsible of taking care of it. In France the focus will be on living from the land in the mountains. How to grow food responsible and importance of using food that grows near you. We will visit responsible farmers that grows food in eco friendly way and learn about the culture of buying fresh products and markets in France. We will also learn about the impact of pollution and what we can do to fight that threat. This project will open a new window. Window into other countries, who are also struggling to take care of their land. This will get a sense in each school that our land not only belongs to our own country but to a community of European countries. We own the planet together their problems are our problems and we can help each other. The outcome of the project will be learning and sharing. It will be learning for the participants who travels and their families but also for the school community. The knowledge will be shared, it will be documented, we will have a portfolio - a project´s web site, the teachers in the schools will learn new ways of teaching and we hope that it will lead to better quality of education in our schools. We will keep the learning together in one place and establish project web page that will be a portfolio for the learning. There we will document the learning journey with pictures, videos and power point presentations from the visits. Texts from children diaries where it´s possible to read about their reflects and learning. Article about logo competition held in each country where you need to put in a lot of thinking about the project in order to take part. There will also be interviews with parents about the hosting process and articles from teachers about what they learned from the trips. We hope that the web page will be helpful to others to open windows. It can be used as teaching tool for teachers around Europe and further so that you can compare land care challenges in different countries.
