The various economic, political and social crises and the new migratory flows test the results of sixty years of hard work for the construction of the European Union. Two different tendencies oppose, those who want to strengthen European unity and those who question the legitimacy of the Union and want to leave it (Brexit e.g.).Our project is aimed at rediscovering the initial values of the EU and at promoting the development of the key competences of citizenship. By closely studying European issues, by discussing these issues, our students developed skills that will allow them to deal with complex situations, to understand them and to analyze them from different angles, in order to make appropriate decisions, respecting humanistic and democratic values. They learnt to avoid simplistic solutions, to give in to dangerous stereotypes or new forms of racism and xenophobia. This project cut through most of the key skills needed to flexibly address the political, economic and social evolution of Europe and beyond. The theme of the project aimed in particular at promoting social and civic skills (such as respect for other cultures, open-mindedness, curiosity in considering the difference as an opportunity for learning, discovery, socio-linguistic awareness, the feeling of empathy) that allowed everyone to acquire a culture of peaceful and harmonious coexistence, in the respect of democratic values and within the framework of a European and world citizenship. Our project also aimed at promoting the development of foreign language communication, digital skills, social and civic responsibility, creativity, and also learning to learn, develop personal fulfilment, self-confidence and autonomy, as well as reinforcing the European dimension of our schools. During the two years, participating students explored the migratory phenomena through different perspectives, such as institutional, historical, artistic and human ones. They met migrants, listened to them, exchanged ideas, created together, to better understand their background, their history and thus developed their sense of empathy. They also screened in migration situations during playful experiences (role plays) and creative activities (creation of short stories, poems, songs, short films). They compared different integration strategies both in their own country and in countries whose integration model is well known (France, U.K., Germany), in order to better understand the institutional mechanisms.Through a simulation of a session of the Junior Parliament, they discussed new strategies to improve the integration of students from migrant families into their own schools. Finally, they drafted a charter for newly arrived pupils on European soil, which will be ratified and used in all the schools of the partnership and, hopefully, beyond. This charter has been drafted in accordance with the European founding values of democracy, education, justice, equality, citizenship and civil rights, in consultation with the Council of Europe, which has agreed to lend us a hand.Visits and exchanges Each time, seven students and two teachers visited one of the partner institutions to participate in training activities related to the project: meetings, workshops, visits, etc. Students were welcomed in the families of participating students.- LTTA 1: Spain, January 2018- LTTA 2: Bulgaria, May 2018- LTTA 3: Italy, November 2018- LTTA 4: France, March 2019The last exchange, which took place in France was completed in Strasbourg, where all the participants visited the European Parliament and the Council of Europe in order to present the ""Charter of Welcome"". Seven MEPs signed our Charter."

Some of the planned activities included:- preparing performances: international play The Merchant of Venice, 5 short sketches, international play Women’s Kingdom, 4 scenes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland;- active participation of teachers and students in different workshops: Folk workshops, Cultural and Historical workshops, Drama workshops, The Edutainment Workshops, Art and IT workshops, Crossing Geographical and Historical Borders workshops, Music and Dance workshops or Team- building workshops. The main objectives of Crossing Borders with Modern Media and Drama project were:- sharing of good practice examples and experiences- ice breaking activities, different workshops, language games, innovative methods of teaching, authentic materials,- improved English skills, cultural awareness, drama and IT skills, knowledge (of geography, art, history, customs, traditions, gastronomy etc.) among students and teachers involved,- the development of positive values (friendship, respect, dignity, responsibility, tolerance, solidarity) - facilitating openness to innovative practices regarding the teaching, learning and evaluation of English in each partner school,-the development of creativity, flexibility, cooperation, media literacy and awareness and interest in other European countries- their core values, cultural heritage, educational systems and lifestyles.Through participation in the following project, students became aware that they can use English as a communication language if they want. They furthered their personal development by cooperating in a team, following the rules, and seeing the benefits of their hard work, which culminated in the performances of plays and short sketches. Students had the opportunity to show and develop their creativity as well as to show their individual talents by participating in the creation of art products for each performance including brochures, posters, costumes, and other dressing props. Traveling to different countries and living with host families also provided new insights for students and helped them develop their personal capabilities and self esteem. Long-term benefits have involved several aspects of crucial importance:- enhancing positive leadership as a role-model among students,- implementing in everyday teaching the good practices shared from the partners,- further cooperation between the partner organisations.

Recent events, like terrorism, mass migrations, refugees, have brought about a great sense of insecurity, which in turn increased feelings of fear, selfishness, racism and intolerance towards what is perceived as different. Integration is losing status as a value among our student population, and it is in fact considered a threat to our own 'roots' and 'traditional values'. It's a matter of 'us' against 'them', without even knowing who are 'we' and who are 'they' exactly. Interestingly enough, most young people have heard of and admire great figures of mankind, but wouldn't be able to say where their greatness lies and why they are important to us.Our students find it very difficult to set both short- and long-term objectives and are not always willing to engage to pursue them. Therefore this project wanted to address these major needs: - bring back integration as a fundamental value for a peaceful society - be aware of the examples found in world AND local peace heroes - recognize the necessity to set clear objectives and be ready to take action to pursue them. To do so our students worked with the following objectives and activities: - studied migration routes and analysed the reasons behind. Collected information about the number of refugees in each of the countries and the attitudes towards immigrats and compared the situation in the five countries taking part in the project. Get awareness of the situation refugees are undergoing. Through this activity their minds were brodened and they reflected on a global situation taking place all over the world, empowered them to make a diffrence.- Carried out a scientific experiment meant to undermine the concept of race and to demonstrate that even great figures of mankind have a lot in common with us all. One of the main tools to reconstruct the evolutionary history of mankind were the study of mitochondrial DNA sequence variation, since it provides information about genetic relationships among different human populations. Being aware that we bear the same genes denies concepts such as human races and racism. Science then will gain a new role as a modern tool in disseminating ideas such as integration, inclusion, globalization, and respect for cultural diversities. That is why we felt it was necessary to address those who will be the future European citizens, the same ones who have already experienced the benefits of living in a free world, and who are old enough to consider what it could be like if the principles on which the Union is based should fail. - explored and investigated both global and local peace heroes, what they did and wich role they played in the society. What made them heroes? We visited the Nobel peace prize center and honoured the winner 2019. This demonstrated that we don't need to be special to be a hero, as even heroes share our same genes. Each one of us can then be responsible to make the world a more peaceful place and contribute to social inclusion.- engaged our students to act as local heroes in their society, inspired by the local and global peace heroes. Offered them opportunities to challenge themselves and learn that everybody can do great little things to make the world a better place. - investigated the tragic terrorist events, like the attack in Norway the 22nd of July, and learned more about what the extreme consequenses of intolerance can be and how we can meet intolerance and radicalism in our local communities. We have understood that if we know history, we can be more objective and make the right decisions, but we have also realized that so “…many roads must we walk down…” before this sort of things “are forever banned” and never happen again. We each are called to do our share for a better world where, instead of fear of diversity, there are empathy and respect. Here we are at the end of this journey. 28 months devoted to understand the different meanings the word Journey has: hope, fear, discovery, wait, development, effort, joy, wonder. All these words always include a meeting: it is our duty to turn into something special and unique. It is time to say goodbye and take with us everything we have learned, that has changed us and made us richer. This end is not really an end, but a new beginning, the beginning of our journey as new and better people. We should never be tired of believing in a world where respect, empathy, and tolerance are what we choose in our life. Finally we would like to sum up with the poem written by Frode Grytten to the boys and girls of Utøya: “hey, hey, time to get up and change the world!”

Kazimierza JagiellonczykaFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2019-1-BG01-KA229-062339Funder Contribution: 167,880 EUR"IntroductionThe main goal of this project is to respond to recent modern world needs—building adequate skills in our students to help in their successful adaptation and realization and raising students’ awareness of being active European citizens through the help of creative learning and creative teaching.Six European schools will participate in the project, united around the idea that drama can be the shortest route to shaping young Europeans' future — raising their creativity, awareness, responsibilities and building an active attitude toward world problems. The project aims to promote open education and innovative practices in a digital era, as well as social inclusion and supporting individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competences. This project will contribute to promoting equality, social cohesion, active citizenship, and enhancing creativity and innovation in European education.Project outlineWe live in a globalized, competitive world relying on new technologies and unlimited information where STEM education plays a major role in the 21st century. In a modern world without any “soft” skills, any individual, no matter how technologically skilled he/she becomes, will be at a disadvantage having no ability to easily communicate and collaborate. These “soft” skills acquired in drama education can support and even improve the “hard” skills learned in STEM subject areas. This project will integrate art, especially drama, into STEM. Students and teachers will be exposed to 6 drama training sessions to train their “soft” skills – communication, collaboration, creativity – needed for their future successful adaptation and realization.Workshops for teaching and learning creatively through drama will be held during the partners meeting in every participating school. Students and teachers will be exposed to 11 workshops to learn how to integrate drama in STEM school subjects. All forms of drama, including pantomime, role plays and improvisation will be used. Participating teachers will observe and discover different ways to be innovative, creative and to improve their performance in the classroom during their daily work. The best teaching model is one which develops skills in the practice of creative teaching. We want to equip teachers with different drama techniques to be applied to education as a creative method of teaching of different school subjects and effective emotional management in our classrooms. All participants in every LTTA will share the learned creative drama approaches with the rest of the students and teachers in their schools. Local and regional seminars will be organized in order to share the project results and creative experience with more teachers. An e-book ""Using Drama in STEM teaching and learning"" with teacher resources of creative drama approaches and techniques in STEM school subjects in 7 languages will guide teachers in Europe through the project website end the eTwinning platform. Integrating drama methods, drama techniques and drama games into teaching and learning in all school subjects will develop skills of native language communication, learning skills, public and civil competencies, cultural awareness and creativity. Students will participate in 21 theatrical performances, one concert, three competitions for the creation of a project logo, an original song-anthem of friendship between young people in the EU, and the creation of an original play related to bullying at school. The students will show their talent through writing plays, songs, creating booklets, trailers and posters for the plays and through participating in theatrical performances and flash mobs. With the project we want to open a window to different cultures, languages, people, and cultivate students' European identity. The students will translate national comedies in English and perform them on stage. A friendship dictionary with basic words in 7 languages- English, Bulgarian, Spanish, Italian, German, Polish and Greek will be created by an international team. An e-book with all project plays will be published on the project's website and the eTwinning platform. Furthermore, we want to establish with students the concept of social responsibility. Students from all partner schools will create 6 plays related to the UN Global Goals and perform them on stage in international teams. Students will practice active citizenship in action through six flash mobs which will spread the word about the UN Global Goals in all partner towns- Kazanlak, Seville, Bari, Krakow, Rethymno, Solingen. Six Learning /Teaching/Training Activities for students and teachers will be held in Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Germany. The project involves schools which will set up a parallel eTwinning project, which will be used to support the sustainability of the project. Conclusion We believe that Drama can be the shortest way to shape young Europeans' future ."
