Migrant integration takes place at multiple levels, and one of the most sensitive fields is that of school education. There are many interventions focusing on teacher competence, the concept of intercultural education, and diversity management in the classroom. However, another important factor affecting the integration process is parental engagement and attitude. Both parents from the host societies and migrant/refugee parents have direct influence on the attitude, behavior and performance of their children, and consequently the integration process as a whole. Positive parental engagement is of paramount importance for the social inclusion of ECM children. The overall objective of the Parents4all project was to raise awareness, empower, and develop the intercultural competences among parents of the host society and migrant/refugee parents alike in order to enable them to contribute effectively to the social inclusion of ECM school-age children. The specific objectives of the project were to:- Actively involve parents in the design of effective interventions for migrant social inclusion- Create tailor-made training material for parents from the host societies in order to effectively deal with diversity and support school activities for social inclusion- Create empowering training material for migrant/refugee parents in order to be able to better support their children in the integration process and effectively collaborate with school staff- Create an effective self-assessment methodology for parents regarding intercultural skills and migrant/refugee pupil inclusion- Raise awareness among parents of both target groups through the production of inspiring audiovisual material- Make recommendations to stakeholders of education and social inclusion for a sustainable intervention methodology addressing parents- Promote the notion that parental engagement for social inclusion is a collaborative, reciprocal, and mutually rewarding process6 organizations from Greece, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and the UK participated. Olympic Training, a VET center from Greece, coordinated the project. BEMIS, Scotland, is the national umbrella organization for the Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector and the communities that this sector represents; ifa Akademie, Germany, is the training and education center of the Institute for Foreign Relations; Soros International House, Lithuania, is a language school involved in integration projects; Programma Integra, Italy, is a social cooperative active in migrant integration; the University of Huelva, Spain, was the academic partner of the consortium. The project involved directly all target groups (parents and stakeholders) in output production. The consortium directly involved over 355 individuals from the main target groups in the project activities, at least 60 of which were persons with cultural differences and/or refugees. Products were tested in a piloting phase. Through the dissemination activities carried out by the consortium and the associated partners, more than 30,000 persons were reached. The activities implemented were:- Development of a methodology for training parents on intercultural competences and active support of ECM pupil integration- Creation of training material tailored to the needs of a) parents from the host societies, and b) ECM parents- Creation of a toolkit for self-assessment on intercultural competences and the need for training in integration issues- Production of a video and a short film designed to raise awareness among parents, promote understanding between the two parent groups and motivate to positive action- Creation of a guide providing recommendations to stakeholders for the exploitation of project products at national level- Extensive dissemination activities, including an international conferenceParents4all raised awareness among parents and stakeholders on ECM children integration issues and the necessity of parental training and engagement. Parents are provided with tested tools to improve their intercultural competences and responsiveness to social, ethnic and cultural diversity and to be empowered in participating more actively in issues related to education and inclusion. The project also provided stakeholders and policy makers with tools for a more holistic social and educational policy. In the long term, improved competences and increased awareness on behalf of parents are expected to have a positive effect on the interaction of pupils of different origins, cooperation with school, and social integration in general.

Migrant organisations and their volunteers work in the local communities they serve but migration is a trans-national issue and there is a positive benefit to these organisations and volunteers in sharing their learning with and learning from migrant organisations and volunteers across Europe. In this way good practice can be spread and an effective and empowered self-sustaining international community of migrant volunteers created. The desired outcome of the project is to:- Identify best practice for organizing and delivering mentoring- Establish a dynamic international network of adult volunteers who, having successfully completed the mentoring MOOC with support from their migrant association, are able to act as mentors to migrants - A self-sustaining, coordinated volunteer-based network that identifies and learns from good practice and failures in mentoring migrants and acts to actively promote the benefits of volunteering. - A mentoring process that is sensitive to the differing needs of migrants from their first point of contact in a new country and when they find a country to permanently settle in.A1 Preparation (Months 1-4) Leader E-MEL / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSA2 Management (Months 1-24) Leader E-MEL / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSA3 Implementation (Months 5-20) Leader JANUS / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSA4 Quality monitoring (Months 2-23) Leader SYNTHESIS / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSA5 Evaluation (Months 19-23) Leader RIEP / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSA5 Dissemination (Months 2-23) Leader MRC / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSOutputsO1 The MENTORnet training package (Months 5-11) Leader: MRC / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSO2 The MENTORnet strategy (Months 11-14) Leader: RIEP / Collaboration: E-MEL, JANUS, SYNTHESISO3 The MENTORnet network (Months 15-20) Leader: SYNTHESIS / Collaboration: ALL PARTNERSNational multiplier eventsE1 Raising awareness event in Marlow (United Kingdom), organized by E-MEL at Month 13E2 Raising awareness event in Bologna (Italy), organized by JANUS at Month 13E3 Raising awareness event in Gdansk (Poland), organized by RIEP at Month 13E4 Raising awareness event in Stuttgart (Germany), organized by IFA at Month 14E5 Raising awareness event in London (United Kingdom), organized by MRC at Month 14E6 Raising awareness event in Nicosia (Cyprus), organized by SYNTHESIS at Month 16ConferencesE7 Mid-term international in Gdansk (Poland), organized by RIEP at month 10E8 International final conference in London (United Kingdom), organized by MRC at month 22The MENTORNET transnational project meetings (TPM) will be:Kick-off meeting (KoM), organized by EMEL in Marlow (United Kingdom), at Month 2TPM2, organized by SYNTHESIS in Nicosia (Cyprus), at Month 6TPM3, organized by IFA in Stuttgart (Germany), at Month 10TPM4, organized by RIEP in Gdansk (Poland), at Month 16TPM5 organized by MRC in London (United Kingdom), at Month 22

Tens of thousands of desperate people from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia are seeking refuge in Europe, striving for a better life for themselves and their families. At the same time, EU countries encounter the challenge of population aging, with the number of elderly people growing steadily in relation to the working-age population. However, many of the retired Europeans still have potential if not to stay in the workforce, then to contribute to the society in many other ways, such as active citizenship and volunteering, bringing with them their personal qualities of patience, wisdom and understanding, as well as a wealth of life and professional experience. To tackle these critical challenges the project will address two main target groups – elderly people and migrants/ refugees. Representatives of both groups tend to suffer from social isolation and are at a greater risk of social exclusion. With this project we aim to contribute to the successful integration of migrants / refugees into the host societies with the help of seniors and to tackle the social exclusion of older people through volunteering services to migrants. To accomplish the above aim the partnership will undertake the following objectives:-strengthening senior volunteers’ active citizenship and volunteering skills through the piloting training based on the training programme developed by the partnership-enhancing host country language learning and orientation process of migrants/ refugees through the provision of the developed social and civic integration tool–guide for migrants (App) as well as offering teaching/ mentoring support by the trained senior volunteers-raising public awareness on the issues related to migration and aging society using the film developed by the project reflecting on the unique experiences of the project participants - senior volunteers and migrants/refugees.The following participants will be directly involved in the project activities: senior volunteers - 15-20 per partner country, migrants/ refugees - 25 per partner country.During the project the following activities will be implemented / outputs will be produced:-training methodology and training programme for senior volunteers providing support for migrant/ refugee integration developed and tested by trainers in partner counties;-training material for teaching senior volunteers in a user-friendly downloadable format developed and piloting trainings organised in each partner country;-social and civic integration tool-a guide for migrants and refugees (App) developed and tested by migrants/ refugees during the exploitation-contact seminars;-exploitation-contact seminars in all partner countries involving senior volunteers and migrants/ refugees organised in all partner countries; the events will be aimed to present the developed social and civic integration tool and to establish contacts between senior volunteers and migrants/ refugees, as well as representatives of organisations providing services for migrants;-short awareness raising film reflecting on the unique experiences of project participants-senior volunteers and migrants/ refugees and aimed at reducing existing misconceptions, combating stereotypes on migration and aging society issues created;- international dissemination and awareness raising conference in Lithuania organised. The project will have an overall impact on various participating target groups, institutions and organisations, local communities through fostering the development of social, civic, intercultural, volunteering competences by providing representatives of both target groups with unique opportunities to integrate and reintegrate into the society, and at the same time providing mutual support to each other and to the society. The project will also have a siginficant and positive impact on the participating organisations and their staff, including trainers participating in the testing and piloting trainings by improving their personal and professional competencies and thereby enhancing the organisations. The project will create a lasting value for the community and society by raising public awareness about the specific issues of aging society as well as migrant / refugee integration in Europe.

""Guidance and motivation strategies"" were conceived as relevant objetives in order to achieve integration in a smooth but immediately effective manner, to stimulate the migrant volunteers to become propagators of the awareness, soft skills and comptences lernt within their wider migrants' communities. The method choosen strategically combined integrated learning package traditional approaches with innovative motivation and guidance tools, to ensure the migrants volunteers' interest, hence the propagation of the benefits of the MAV adult learning via these migrant volunteers to other migrants. This enables the project to offer direct peer-to-peer mentoring. In this way, MAV contributed to enhance the achievement of migrants integration and produced products for sustainable use in mainstream-service provision. The main approach of MAV was to focuse on volunteers who serve as ""mentors"" for other migrants (including refugees, third country national and non native in general) in order to better guide them into participation in their host societies, into the European labor market, help them to identify and improve their skills and competences and to continue to build upon competences they might have had in their countries of origin.MAV created a learning tool kit for adult volunteers (especially adult migrants in volunteering) to better self-train and qualify volunteers to manage for ""their migrants"" the transition process between ""arriving as migrants"" up to being integrated. Training is available on the MAV online platform. In particular, the project was implemented in seven project countries (Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, United Kingdom, Cyprus and Turkey) by seven expert entities sharing different but complementary focus areas, which carried out learning interventions for volunteers to promote their engagement in becoming mentors and facilitators of other migrants as further users of the ""lesson lernt"". Within its conceptual orientation, MAV integrated relevant considerations in the field in a comprehensive and multidimensional approach, and achieve the following results:(1) MAV created 1) The MAV guide for trainers, 2) The MAV adult learners' toolkit, 3) The MAV adult training course and 4) The MAV Communication Toolkit. The guide for trainers, the adult trainings courses and the communication toolkit are available in all partner languages (EN, DE, EL, IT, RO, TR), whereas the adult learners toolkit is available in EN and DE,(2) During the project appr. 540 key players in the project countries were involved in the project implementation, in MAV conferences and appr. 280 stakeholders ettendes multiplier events,(3) 70 experts and professionals working with volunteering as groups of experts were consulted,(4) 140 migrants were involved in piloting of outcomes and courses,(5) appr. 4.000 users have been visiting and using the MAV online platform(6) institutions and organisation in England, Germany, Italy, Greece and Romania will continue to use MAV products in their mainstream service provisions for migrants and refugees."
