<< Background >>The ageing of population is a worldwide phenomenon with critical implications for all sectors of society. Due to low birth rates, high life expectancy and migration flow dynamics, worldwide population is “turning grey”, and Europe is not an exception. An ageing population brings social, health, economic, and other issues. Overall in the EU, the total public spending of ageing is expected to increase by 1.7% to 26.7% of GDP between 2016 and 2070. In all countries, measures to help older people remain active and participative are a necessity, not a luxury. The United Nations and the European Commission agree that quality ageing is a responsibility of all (private, public and civic actors), and can only be created and sustained through the participation of multiple sectors. People are thus encouraged to take the lead to implement programmes addressing quality and active ageing. These impressive projections feed into a variety of policy debates and processes at EU level, including the overarching Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. There is uncertainty surrounding these long-term projections, which are made under a 'no-policy-change' assumption to illustrate what the future could be if current policies remain unchanged. Thus, as populations grow older, the EC encourages the design of innovative policies and public services specifically targeted to older persons. The UN and the EC agree that quality ageing is a responsibility of all (private, public and civic actors), and can only be created and created and sustained through joint efforts of multiple sectors. People are encouraged to take the lead to implement programmes addressing questions as: How do we help people remain independent and active as they age? How can we strengthen health promotion and prevention policies? How can the quality of life in old age be improved?, and attempt to collaborate in assuring that senior citizens remain a valuable resource to their families and communities, as stated in the WHO Brasilia Declaration on Ageing and Health in 1996. In all countries, measures to help older people remain active and participative are a necessity, not a luxury. The time to act is now! This framework, in addition to the environmental global crisis and the EU Green Deal prerogatives, led the partners to plan a project aiming at fomenting active ageing policies that would bring added-value to both the communities and the elderly. Preparation work of the partners and resulting direct contact with the agents working directly with the elderly in several countries (Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Poland) revealed that the third age sector and the elderly would like to contribute to nature conservation, because of all the positive inputs that the contact with nature brings to the senior’s mental and physical health, and because it enhances autonomy. However, when inquired about what prevented those agents (or the elderly) to implement outdoor programmes, they responded the staff lacks competences to address nature-related actions and to organize safe outdoor activities. When further inquired on the preferred enrolment schemes for the elderly in such outdoor programmes, they were unanimous in responding that volunteerism would be the perfect model to adopt. The educational needs were thus identified to a depth that allowed partners to build a robust consortium and a strategy to respond to those needs. SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY thus requires expertise on different areas and insights from countries with active ageing policies at different levels of implementation in order to make it effective and transferable to a large geographical scale, assuring transnational quality impact on a set of different target audiences (from ground to policy-makers).<< Objectives >>SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY aims at:-Promoting active ageing through the involvement of senior citizens in nature conservation volunteering programmes, and through the capacitation of personnel working in the third age sector to develop and implement such programmes;-Valorising the elderly and all their potential as productive citizens;-Support adult (senior) learners by providing high-quality training fostering key competences and skills;-Generating environmental awareness, and promote European citizenship values;-Promoting language, literacy, ICT, intercultural, and interpersonal skills in senior citizens and in the third age personnel;-Promoting social inclusion and active ageing policy.<< Implementation >>SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY will train at least 48 third age personnel from Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Poland, and will directly involve at least 300 senior citizens in environmental activities in Portugal and Iceland. Indirectly, over 1000 senior citizens will somehow be involved in the project’s activities.Participants will join environmental activities in the field, virtual and physical international dialogues and exchanges, and will test and validate all the results. They will also attend public events and will be consulted for policy contributions.SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY is thus a cross-sectoral project that will achieve the abovementioned activities, but mainly long-lasting immaterial results in what concerns the social inclusion of the elderly; their willingness and awareness to enrol in outdoor conservation programmes (or other active ageing programmes) in an informed way; the competences of entities, personnel and adult (senior) educators to develop and implement active ageing programmes; the encouragement of ageing-friendly policies. It is then expected that SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY will cause a significant impact at different levels (local, national and international) on the different target-groups and stakeholders. Thanks to the diversity of the participating organizations and the high-level quality of their respective networks, the project’s results will be disseminated to relevant stakeholders, assuring the project’s uptake and continuity. Partners are committed to achieving institutional buy-in to the proposed methodology, and SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY will certainly support social inclusion and valorization of the elderly, the establishment of green active ageing programmes, and the development of high-quality skills and competences in both the elderly and the staff supporting them. Environmental action and improvements in local governance policy will also be important benefits.<< Results >>SENIORS4SUSTAINABILITY will produce a set of tangible results and outcomes that hopefully will facilitate the construction of intangible outcomes, such an improvement in third-age and environmental policies. Results are described in detail in the relevant chapter of the application, but, in short are:- A report/collection of best-practice and inspirational cases to inspire and guide the project development;- An online platform that features the project information, results, news, and an observatory for best-practice in nature conservation programmes inclusive to seniors, and an enrolment directory for such projects and the elderly;- A handbook for seniors, explaining the rights and duties of volunteers, safety rules, etc;- A step-be-step handbook and an executive package for institutions willing to implement senior volunteer/active ageing programmes;- A training course for 3rd age personnel, available in 4 languages;- An audiovisual set of contents, explaining the topics addressed by the project in an inclusive way;- A policy paper explaining the importance of a change in 3rd age and environmental policies. This output will summarize a set of evidence-based recommendations, from a policy-making and local democracy perspective.- A laymen report assembling all lessons learned and crucial findings of the project, allowing for clear and swift dissemination of the tackled benefits. We will also run internal evaluation exercises after each meeting or event, ensuring the project is developing according to each target group and the consortium’s needs and goals. The expected outcomes are the following:- Development and implementation of 1 senior ‘green volunteering’ programme.- Delivery of 1 training course for 3rd age personnel, with resultant improvement of their skills and intercultural perspective.- Organization of 6 multiplier events and consequent impact in local communities.- Raise awareness about ageing and environmental issues.- Promote the benefits of international cooperation for the resolution of such issues.- Promote 3rd age and environmental friendly policies at high decision making level, with impacts on (at least) local governance and democratic systems.- Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, and relevant EU commitments for sustainable development, such as the 2030 EU Agenda and the EU Green Deal.

<< Background >>The European way of life is an inclusive one. Integration and inclusion are keys for people coming to EU, for local communities, and for the long-term well-being of our societies and the stability of our economies. This means empowering those facing disadvantages, while ensuring our communities are united and cohesive. It means giving equal opportunities to all to enjoy their rights and participate in community and social life, regardless of the background and in line with the European Pillar of Social Rights. It also means respecting common EU values as enshrined in the EU Treaties and in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, including democracy, the rule of law, the freedoms of speech and religion, as well as the rights to equality and non-discrimination. These fundamental values are an essential part of living and participating in EU society. The challenge of integration and inclusion is particularly relevant for migrants, not only newcomers but sometimes also for TCNs who might have naturalised and are EU citizens. The Action plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021-2027 stated the need for continuing development of skills and competences related with appreciation of cultural diversity, including respect for the persons with a migrant background because multiculturalism and diversity are not always accepted by some members of host societies. The need for fighting discrimination and racism and ensuring decent treatment in the workplace it’s a crucial concern that must be addressed. Based on the fact that Education for all is the basis for achieving a mild social integration of the new coming members of the society as well as a harmonic co-existence with the local members of it, BRICS aims to better prepare and deploy the education and training of professionals who work with migrants and for confronting equity, diversity and inclusion challenges in the society as well as to promote the integration of migrants.Teachers find themselves struggling to deal with the culturally diverse classroom. Although the experience can be enriching, many teachers find they are unexposed, unprepared and unequipped to address the challenges of cultural diversity. Inadequate policies in relation to integration and education of migrants also impede teachers, educators, school administrators, and migrant communities in finding coordinated, innovative solutions. The project will explore these gaps and develop the tools to address these various needs.Since the needs are common between EU countries, the transnational character of the project will produce valid tools that could be transferable and applied in other EU contexts with minor modifications and added benefits. The consortium consists of 5 partners countries (Poland, Cyprus, Italy, Slovakia, Spain) and were brought together to capitalize and build on each other’s knowledge and experience from best practices in their national context, for future circulation and transfer of know-how in their daily tasks. The majority of partners have previous experience in European projects and their role is considered crucial for the project implementation based on its scope and its wide network. This project meets the need of the organizations to foster thei staff skills, exchange best practices with other EU countries and produce innovative educational resources that can be useful on a daily basis. BRICS will have positive impact on all organisations and their staff that will be involved, as they will further enhance their background in terms of understanding the actual needs of immigrants. The new tools and methodologies that will be developed will be utilized by all participating organizations for the target group, while the exchange of know-how and good practices among all partners and also between the consortium and external stakeholders, will enrich their expertise and allow them to serve better the needs of these target groups.<< Objectives >>BRICS aims to improve the social inclusion of immigrants through the development and improvement of their competences (social, cultural, values, organizational, educational, etc.). The consortium’s goals involve a great strategic challenge, as it will develop innovative digital products, foster learning and develop joint initiatives, and exchange experiences; since in each one of the countries of the consortium, diverse policies are applied and different inclusion resources exist. The partnership is aware that migration is a phenomenon that is part of European history and part of the cities of the consortium. The proposal understands social integration as an essential element and as a permanent multidirectional process of creating a new common ground to live together. BRICS aims to invest in this goal in connection with the project results’ sustainability. BRICS points out that it is necessary to change and adapt all types of public services: housing, admission to the labor market and education programs according to the immigrants’ needs. This heterogeneity that migrations entail, added to the variety of reception contexts, generates the need to create realistic social inclusion strategies that are open to different territories, profiles and needs due to the diverse situation in regards of immigration of the participant organizations’ countries. The need for fighting discrimination and racism and ensuring decent treatment in the workplace is a crucial concern that must be addressed. Based on the fact that Education for all is the basis for achieving a mild social integration of the new coming members of the society as well as a harmonic co-existence with the local members of it, BRICS project aims to better prepare and deploy the education and training of professionals who work with migrants and for confronting equity, diversity and inclusion challenges in the society as well as to promote the integration of migrants. Therefore, the target groups of the project are professionals who work with migrants and people with a migrant background. The main goal is to facilitate the integration of migrants in the society by increasing their creativity levels, and at the same time, to improve diversity management competences of adult trainers in order to create and maintain an inclusive environment where each one of the migrants despite its nationality is able to learn and grow. A core element of our proposal is thus developing personal autonomy and intercultural competencies among adult immigrant sectors in the participating countries. We are not oblivious to the pressures that migrant populations experience in their host societies, and the emotional and mental health stress that they may be suffering. This is what is called the “Ulysses Syndrome” as described by Achotegui (2000). Thus, it is important to provide newcomers with the instruments and training that allow them to assume a functional adult role in their host society and to reduce their stress at being efficient in terms of employment and social integration. BRICS aims to produce tools geared to facilitating the knowledge and understanding of the host culture to migrant adults and to thus contribute to minimize the social gaps. Since the needs are common between EU countries, the transnational character of the project will produce valid tools that could be transferable and applied in other EU contexts with minor modifications and added benefits. The objectives of the project are: •Help professionals, adult educators reflect upon the importance of inclusive and diverse societies•teach professionals, adult educators by sharing examples of best practices of using art as a tool for inclusion of migrant groups•Provide professionals, adult educators with artistic tools and methods to help and support marginalised people’s inclusion into the community•To increase professionals, adult educators awareness about social exclusion and inclusion•Improve the supply of high qualit<< Implementation >>In parallel with the project’s research and development activities and throughout the project implementation period, a set of horizontal activities will be supported from the grant for Project Management & Implementation:A1. We are facing the major humanitarian and migrant crisis in Europe after the Second World War, according to the High Commissioner of the United Nations. The persistence of political conflicts, regional inestability and the violation of Human Rights are the reasons why so much population is searching for protection into the European Union. The erradication of this situation is becoming THE MAJOR CHALEGUE OF THE EU MEMBERS. This situation is generating an incredible refusal to migration, generation of hate and violent actions. The direct consequence of those demonstrations of violence and disrespect, is that our youth is having a partial and negative view of reality and is unwilling to integrate or facilitate the integration of newcomers. To face this situation this proposal wants to generate a CULTURE OF PEACE AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION of migrants and refugees from a SOCIAL AWARENESS process within youth, that can act as catalyst and generator of messages and attitudes in favor of social integration and against racism and xenophobia.Participants of this project: 18 youth workers from the 8 participant organisations (7 different countries); 34 representers of partner organisations (NGOs, universities, administrations); 160 youth in the 7 participant countries that will participante in the LABORATORIES LA CAJA (to combat prejudices, racism and to promote of a culture of peace and integration), 160 diverse stakeholders (administration, university, social sector) that will participate in the advocacy actions; and 151 committed persons within the social inclussion and migratory processes who are interested in identiying mechanism to promote a more tolerant and inclussive Europe that will participate in the Social Forum. The project will develop a meeting to define the strategy with partner organisations; it will include a training with youth workers from the partner countries in order to get competences into innovation tools focused in social awareness processes towards an inclusive Europe; afterwards those youth workers will apply those learnerd tools in their countries from TRAINING LABORATORIES with youth; also ADVOCACY TABLES with diverse stakeholders in each country, and the development of a SOCIAL and participative FORUM where to share all the process and plan the projection for future impacts. There will be also diverse intellectual outputs generated in the framework of this proposal in order to share the generated knowledge in an open manner that, throw diverse dissemination activities and a campaing of NO HATE SPEECH, will be disseminated and distributed in all participant countries.DREAMING OUT LOUD will make us of diverse INNOVATIVE tools and methodologies that promote the collective construction (“To dream out loud”) of a more tolerant and inclusive Europe, from the SOCIAL AWARENESS to combate racism and xenophobia, and the promoting of an attitude change towards newcomers to Europe. This project will produce REPLICABLE AND INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS: a training methodology for youth, and a methodology to develop participative social and political advocacy actions, that will be offered to other possible social organisation or stakeholders freely and openly.

Participating organizations will have the possibility to assess their capacity in the field;•Development of an online network for the promotion of upskilling pathways for TCN women; •Strengthening their links with the community, LMS and TCN women;Considering the crisis in Greece’s borders, were more than 4 million refugees from the Middle East and Africa are seeking asylum in Europe, none can’t doubt that refugee crisis is again at its peak and it doesn’t concern only the participating countries, but also, the majority of EU countries. As the efforts of the EC in designing strategies and tools for the integration of TCNs target all Member States, the aim of the project cannot be restricted only for the national level. It is expected to affect the EU as a destination of cultural and social openness and multicultural diversity. Thus, it can be argued that the project’s aim and scope have to be implemented transnationally as it will produce valid tools that could be transferrable in other EU contexts with minor modifications.

Recent psychological findings explain why coronavirus might be perceived as an opportunity for adults to get more creative whilst under living life under lockdown. An average person has about 60,000 thoughts in a day and during this self- isolation time, negative thoughts can be overpowering. It is scientifically proved that engaging in a creative activity can lead to a positive state of mind. Getting inspired in the times of adversity and uncertainty, and exploring creative outlooks is not a new concept. Dealing with the pandemic does not only mean taking care of one’s physical health, but mental health too. As we acknowledge the heightened atrocities of the world, it’s equally important to look out for the silver linings for our own sanity and our mental well-being. Mental health is an important part of overall health and wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It may also affect how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices during an emergency. People with pre-existing mental health conditions or substance use disorders may be particularly vulnerable in an emergency situations like the quarantine that we have all experienced in the previous months. There is a need for both mental health services, particularly for vulnerable po-pulations, and the strengthening of social capital to reduce the adverse psychological impact of the outbreak. (Shigemuraet al., 2020), the economic impact of COVID-19 and its effects on well-being, will likely cause high levels of fear and panic behaviour. QuarantinART will equip and support women with knowledge, key competencies and tools for improving understanding of artistic environments and diversity concepts in order for people who do not have the luxury to learn how to invest in art, or with a background that is not so artistic friendly, to invest time and energy in accepting that a more creative life will ensure an increase of resourcefulness and inspiration which even allows women to work professionally in a creative field. The consortium consists of 5 partners from 5 EU countries (SK, CY, IT, PL, LT) sharing similar challenges, covering a variety of sectoral, geographical & professional backgrounds. Especially when it comes to women with low skills and who did not have the opportunity to spend more time for themselves for a variety of reasons this project will become a milestone for their personal development and mental health through online artistic workshops. Through these virtual lessons they will learn that working out the passions is also a success element in life. An inspiring environment should give space for low-skilled women to follow their passions whether it is painting, knitting, drawing or other art forms. Setting aside time for such activities is really going to help them develop their creative talents in addition to academic brilliance. Creativity is not just for artists, writers, and painters. It’s an attitude and way of problem-solving that applies across domains, from engineering, to biology, to business. Many women dismissed their passion for art and did not follow the path they wished. A creative act can help focus the mind and it has also been compared to meditation as it helps in calming the brain. We are making an effort to increase the creativity level of women to boost their mental health and wellbeing despite the difficult times that they going through with a series of workshops and lessons especially designed to cover their needs. Whenever we think of creativity, the first thing that comes to our mind is painting, singing, dancing, and more. However, there is a lot more to the concept, than just that! 4 Transnational meetings will take place during the project's duration and 5 multiplier events will be organized to disseminate the project results. List of the expected results (Intellectual outputs)IO1) Creativity Boost Guide (a guide that will be demonstrating what are the barriers that adults face that doesn’t allow them to express their creativity and how to overcome them) IO2) Play based, art filled, at home education for women course ( digital creative teaching lessons designed to improve the women's skills on painting, craft-making, ceramic, knitting, etc) IO3) Digital Storytelling Empowerment Tools ( videos that will offer examples of personal success stories from women in the field of arts)Some other expected results are the improvisation or development of their skills, interpersonal, intrapersonal and communication skills. The objectives of this project include: •Maintain mental health and wellbeing of the participants•Increase the creativity levels of these women•Enhance Self-awareness and Expression•Help them show off their talents to the worldThe QuarantinART project is expected to have an overall impact on low qualified women living get involved with arts through initiating and establishing their own ideas.
