At the meeting of the Cardiovascular Health Technology Centre at the University of Twente, we bring together researchers, clinicians, and engineers to foster collaboration and innovation in cardiovascular health. Our mission closely aligns with that of the Netherlands Heart Institute (NLHI) and the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA). We focus on integrating technology, biomedical sciences, and clinical practice to transform the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Our shared goal is to reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases by 25% by 2030.

Many criminal cases, that affect people financially and emotionally, remain unsolved, because current analysis is not providing enough intelligence. In this project we aim to develop two different tools to enhance the effectivity and efficiency of crime scene investigation. First one is an innovative rapid test to determine whether a trace sample contains sufficient DNA that enables suspect identification. Second tool is a microfluidic device to establish at the crime scene if biological traces belong to the same individual (victim/suspect). With this we aim to increase the trust and confidence of citizens in government and law enforcing agencies.

Freight transport is one of the major causes of CO2 emissions and congestion globally. For the past thirty years, policy attempts and research initiatives have been carried out to create modal shift to rail and waterborne transport. However, we still experience a system that is predominantly truck-based, and that does not exploit the full potential of the well-connected network and the deployed capacity. By aligning business models, operations, regulations, behavioural incentives, data management, and AI, we lead the transition to a sustainable and fair “matching platform” for composite services, defined as Freight Mobility as a Service (FMaaS).

The NEWEL project aims to identify, analyze and predict fundamental elements of well-being at work for today and tomorrow, using Big Data. This data will be obtained from objective behavioral and performance data, experiments and surveys conducted among the personnel of Koninklijke Ahold NV, a multinational company with a large and diverse workforce. NEWEL brings together researchers from philosophy and ethics, artificial intelligence, happiness economics and organizational psychology to tackle three issues.

Children and youth spend ample time online with apps, gaming, and watching videos. We will research how this affects their development, taking the role of social relations, characteristics of the child or youth, and family background into account. We then look at how this impacts inequality of opportunity and we develop interventions and tools for professionals, parents and youth to prevent inequality of opportunity.
