By building on the experience gained by running the NGI Outreach Office, NGI4ALL.E will guarantee continuity of several essential activities, while injecting new ideas, tools and actions, based on the evolution of the demand and of the overall NGI context. It will strengthen and grow the NGI ecosystem in a sustainable and impactful way, maximizing and amplifying work and results of ongoing NGI projects, while attracting to the initiative newcomers especially from under-represented groups/areas. NGI4ALL.E will help sharpen the NGI vision and tie it to broader conversations about the development of ethical, human-centred digital technologies, improving NGI visibility, accessibility, and relevance towards non-technical audiences, in larger and more diverse contexts.

An integrated, open ecosystem built around Open Source, Open Standards, and the effective blending of the two vibrant European communities of Cloud Computing and Internet of Things (IoT) is the key enabler for European prosperity in the Cloud-Edge-IoT domain and more widely in the data economy. Therefore the core ambition of OpenContinuum is fostering European strategic autonomy and interoperability through an open ecosystem for the computing continuum. Such an ecosystem will contain the research and innovation projects in the Cloud-Edge-IoT portfolio to be coordinated, the diverse community evolved from the current Cloud and IoT ones, with the addition of further actors, initiatives, and alliances of significance. The supply-side nature of OpenContinuum's agenda will orient the themes and focus of the project activities, but will not limit the scope of the community building. The active landscaping and engagement work of the project will be key to bring the Cloud and IoT communities together and to express all points of view with a common language and understanding. OpenContinuum will then provide strong guidance and support to European computing continuum actors to contribute to and lead open-source projects and standardisation efforts. Key project contributions to the relevant expected outcomes include: a baseline common open architecture for computing continuum research projects, reinforced collaboration between European public and private initiatives from Cloud to edge to IoT, and increased awareness on the importance of Open Source and standards for EU digital autonomy. These contributions, arising from project results, will evolve further towards larger-scale impacts and strategic objectives for European technological, economic, and societal advancement.

To achieve the EC Call objectives, the project’s consortium combines expertise in Digital/Internet Commons, Open Source, the European digital policy landscape with a deep understanding of the overall NGI initiative. Digital Commons, including open source software, hardware, design, standards and data, are essential to support sovereignty, trust and democratic values in society. Their economic and geopolitical importance has been recognized in the EU's Digital Decade Strategy. To unlock the full potential of Digital Commons, efforts must be made to overcome fragmentation and bridge the gap between bottom-up movements and top-down regulatory efforts, a role that the NGI Commons project can effectively play. The project's approach focuses on creating value for all stakeholders in the NGI community and facilitating access to NGI resources and funding for DC/IC initiatives. It leverages the consortium's deep understanding of NGI tools and mechanisms and its well-established connections across Europe and beyond. The project will conduct a thorough economic analysis of the NGI initiative's impact and the broader DC/IC landscape, which will contribute to creating a strategic agenda for supporting Digital Commons throughout the current MFF period and beyond. The main objective is to help the NGI initiative to integrate and align with other European and national Digital Commons policies in order to develop a long-term strategy that is critical for sovereignty, trust and European democratic values. The ultimate ambition is to create a more coherent European funding landscape to make the Digital Commons a core building block of EU digital sovereignty and public digital infrastructure.

The proposal aims at building bridges between technical communities as well as policy makers on topics relating to Digital policies and the related ICT standardisation priorities, with a view to develop mutual understanding of policy, regulatory and technical approaches to ICT/digital as well as to enhance cooperation on ICT standards and seek alignment in policies and regulations, leading to a wider use of EU standards, in turn supporting increased trade and propagation of EU values. InDiCo-Global will therefore: - develop a sound understanding of the policy, regulatory and standardization landscape of partner countries/regions - foster awareness of the European Standardisation System (ESS), its deliverables in the context of ICT/Digital and how they support global acceptance and interoperability, - promote EU policies and standards (developed or in the making) for select ICT/digital technologies and develop cooperation around them, - create and leverage opportunities for capacity building with partner countries/regions While InDiCo was implemented by ETSI only, InDiCo-Global will see all three formal European Standardization Organizations (ESOs) join forces and leverage their unparalleled ability to combine their respective models and reach into all possible standardization-related communities: formal (ISO/IEC/ITU, national standards bodies) or not, national, regional or global, traditional or novel/disruptive (e.g. open source groups). With support of experts in communication, dissemination and exploitation (Martel) as well as handling of FSTP (Trust-IT), InDiCo-Global will be best positioned to contribute to a human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial technologies.

This will be done by engaging all key stakeholders within the Smart Networks and Services (SNS) ecosystem, but also by embracing civil society players, regulators, policy makers, media, and the public at large, to ensure correct and clear information about the expected impacts 6G technology will produce and induce is elaborated and disseminated. To achieve this objective, 6G4Society will apply methodologies from ethics, legal and social science and humanities (SSH) perspectives, allowing to comprehend socio-cultural aspects and mechanisms behind 6G technology and lay the foundation for a responsible research and innovation (RRI) of 6G technology. Based on these methodologies, 6GSociety will provide methods, models, guidelines, policy options and operation recommendations to develop sustainable and socially accepted 6G technology and applications. The 6G4Society results (including a Technology Acceptance Model for 6G technology, a framework of Key Sustainability Indicators, a policy brief and an operation brief) will be validated with all 6G-SNS JU projects by adopting public and user engagement methodology, as well as by involving the 6G-IA Working Groups and its connected projects. To achieve these ambitious objectives, the 6G4Society project is composed by a consortium with heterogeneous skills and competence, ranging from SSH and RRI (CEL and PSCE), technology (NOVA, PSCE and EBOS), networking coordination and management (MAR), communication and stakeholder engagement (D4P). The consortium has large experience in 5G-PPP/6G-IA projects and initiatives, and its partners have links with more than 20% of the current JU 6G-SNS initiatives, ensuring a strong cooperation to achieve objectives.
