The The idea for this project arose first and foremost from the financial difficulties that have permeated much of Europe for several years. The last few years have witnessed a big part of the burden of austerity being heaped onto the shoulders of the continent’s young people. We, the project group, felt there was a need to look into this and see if we, in our professions, could contribute towards something positive. This project was based on a couple of identified needs that we observed in the various participating countries. First, we saw a need for more effective and innovative instruments to encourage young people to become more aware and educated on how to manage one’s private economy. To become financially literate, to put it differently. This need was in large part based on the financial difficulties much of Europe has been going through over the last several years, and which persists still. Second, we found it to be an ongoing need to have more competence and understanding of conflict management among young people. We see clear links between the macro- and the micro level on this topic. Lastly, we had an idea of combining these two areas to attempt to provide concrete tools, especially to group of young people with fewer opportunities, to deal more constructively with troubling situations of financial difficulty without resorting to conflict.Communication about the initial ideas started between a few of the partners who knew each other well from a long list of previous collaborations. The project rationale and a couple of concrete ideas were then shared down the network of acquainted trainers, youth workers and organisations. All partners have been involved in this project based on their special competence or experience related to one or both of the concrete tools the project group wanted to develop. The centrepiece of this project has been to develop and produce two educational and interactive board games, to address financial literacy and conflict management - “Real Ideal” and “Mission Z”, respectively. The project has been undertaken with 10 formal partners, with one external partner that has also been involved throughout the whole project - including holding a crucial role in the actual production of all the game pieces for what has become “Real Ideal” and “Mission Z”. It was an important criterion for us that all the involved organisations, companies and informal groups are involved as directly as possible in field youth work or local community building. The results include that each partner now is in possession of 1 complete set of “Mission Z” and 4 complete sets of “Real Ideal”, attractively designed and formed in multipurpose materials. All game pieces have been handmade in a village in Portugal, and has thus created some employment during the project period, as well as improved the capacity of the same village and its people to produce more output of a similar sort in the future. Our testing of the concepts for both games has been rigorous. In total we have tested the two games with 653 participants who have all provided us with written feedback. This has enabled us to modify the games during the project period and adjust for input offered to us by the actual target group for both games, the young people themselves. The feedback from these participants has been overwhelmingly positive, across the board. This is the main thing for us, and gives us a feeling of having contributed well to the field of youth work and non-formal learning methods. The outputs of this project has also reached other circles, such as banks and universities that are keen on utilising these games in their education of financial literacy and conflict management, respectively. Some concrete partnerships along these lines have already been formalised. For more, and updated information also after the project’s end, we invite the reader to visit our website: http://bb-games.eu

The main objectives of the project are: -To raise awareness on the topic of Alternative Dispute Resolution and its use in conflict management both in private and public sector; -To create a group of highly qualified youth trainers specialised in teaching ADR with NFE methods; -To develop new educational methods based on the knowledge and experience in the fields of ADR and NFE (simulation games, practical workshops, role plays); -To provide series of intensive trainings for young leaders on the topics of multiculturalism, dialogue, active citizenship, participation, conflict resolution, ADR; -To create new tools for implementation of intercultural dialogue and ADR in youth work (handbook on educational methods, workshops’ scenarios, web portal (ICT and OER); -To improve the communication and social skills of young professionals and youth leaders entering the labour market and thus increasing their sense of entrepreneurship; -To contribute towards building more respectful, trustworthy and partner-oriented atmosphere in the business, public and private sectors; -To encourage conciliatory and interest-based approach in business and private relations. Project is dedicated to three target groups. First is a team of 20 youth trainers who participated in intense training on the topic of Alternative Dispute Resolution delivered by professional mediators and conflict managers. They afterwards combined this knowledge with non-formal education tools and prepared a whole new set of teaching methods. Second group consists of 150 - 200 youth leaders and young professionals who participated and evaluated the training courses developed and delivered by the youth trainers. The third target group includes partner organisations, professional ADR institutions, educational institutions, stakeholders active on the labour market, other interested individuals (at least 250 representatives). They participated in dissemination activities and were invited to an open discussion on the topic of importance of implementation of ADR into regular educational activities and its validation on the labour market. ‘First ADR Kit’ included the following activities: Research on ADR service and education; Preparation of ICT web portal ADR training for youth trainers; Preparation of new workshop scenarios combining ADR with NFE (including two games scenarios); Series of trainings for youth; Conferences and dissemination activities. All activities were conducted with the use of Non-Formal Education. Special focus will be given to simulation games and practical workshops in order to fully experience the use and challenges connected with conflict management. The project resulted with several ‘hard’ outcomes, such us: methodological handbook, workshop scenarios, simulation games, online webpage with elements of ICT. It also resulted in higher competences of young people with regard to conflict resolutions, their increased sense of initiative and entrepreneurship due to better understanding of the mechanisms ruling disputes, willingness to use professional ADR services and to pursue further training in this field, more reliable and relation-friendly atmosphere in the business sector, bigger awareness on the importance of providing ADR education already on the early stage of education/professional career. In a long term the project initiated the first in Europe network of youth organisations specialised in ADR. It will also help improve the quality and sustainability of relations in public and private sectors, encourage more open and conciliatory approach in everyday communication and enable much more active participation of youth in their communities.

This means that youth workers also need to learn how to develop vibrant, engaging and meaningful non-formal learning activities that are adapted to these needs and preferences, in order to reach young people. At European level, this need has been acknowledged by the Council conclusions on the quality of youth work (2013) that clearly state the aim to “ensure that youth work is relevant and responsive to both the interests and needs of young people”.Learning Experience Design (LXD) is the process of creating meaningful learning experiences, where the learner is at the core of the journey and the path is defined by learning goals. Niels Floor, a renowned designer, developed the concept initially, in 2007, while striving to apply design principles to the development of learning experiences. During the last years, the field of LXD has grown and developed both in theories and in practices, while designers and educators around the world, look for ways to develop optimal learning environments that are both engaging and effective. The purpose of this project is to explore and develop further the applications of LXD in European Youth Work and in Education at large.OBJECTIVESThe main goal is: to explore and develop further the applications of LXD in European Youth Work and in Education at large.Other objectives:1 - To develop intellectual outputs on the area of LXD in youth and education. A research, a Manual and a Trainers Pool2 - To share good practices of innovative learning methods that are used in higher education and youth field, in different countries3 - Raise the competences of youth workers and educators on learning methods4 - Strengthen the cooperation between the youth and educational sectorPARTICIPANTSWe will have 20 participants in total on the transnational meetings. They will be project managers, youth workers and educators.
