Replika is a popular app with which you can design a virtual companion that looks exactly the way you like, remembers the things you say and uses this information to respond ever more accurately to your wishes and desires. For this study, we interview Replika users to examine how they relate to their virtual partner and how their experiences challenge conventional views of meaningful interpersonal relations. Can a digital avatar be considered a ‘significant other’ and what does this mean for human-to-human-relations?

Therefore, we developed the idea of the Multivoiced Archive, an archive in which ‘unheard voices’ will be archived, analyzed, displayed, and interconnected in ways that the voice’s knowledge is circulated in more creative and effective ways. This will contribute to pluralize education, policy, politics and society.
