In recent years, more and more people turn to social artificial intelligence to create their ideal partner. Replika is a popular app with which you can design a virtual companion that looks exactly the way you like, remembers the things you say and uses this information to respond ever more accurately to your wishes and desires. For this study, we interview Replika users to examine how they relate to their virtual partner and how their experiences challenge conventional views of meaningful interpersonal relations. Can a digital avatar be considered a ‘significant other’ and what does this mean for human-to-human-relations?

In the VICI-project Dialogics of Justice we learned that our data archive needs to be more than a ’sleeping’ archive. Therefore, we developed the idea of the Multivoiced Archive, an archive in which ‘unheard voices’ will be archived, analyzed, displayed, and interconnected in ways that the voice’s knowledge is circulated in more creative and effective ways. This will contribute to pluralize education, policy, politics and society.

Strengthening Digital Competence through Collaboration: The Dutch Philosophical Universities (NLU), consisting of the Protestantse Theologische Universiteit (PThU), Theologische Universiteit Utrecht (TUU), Theologische Universiteit Apeldoorn (TUA) and the Universiteit voor Humanistiek (UvH) will use this grant to further strengthen digital competencies in their institutions by setting up a Digital Competence Centres (DCC). This DCC will function as the institutional intersection where expertise, knowledge and development around digital competencies come together. As philosophical institutions we encounter specific challenges and joining our forces together will help us to overcome those, hence our project title: strengthening digital competence through collaboration.
