The GO Functional Improvement & Tourism (GO FIT) project addressed the gap in learning programs between HEI’s exercise and health experts, with both educational and clinical expertise, in collaboration with tourism manager’s specialists. So, the GO FIT project was designed to develop a new learning program, a web platform and a multimedia application with transdisciplinary approach for exercise, health and tourism, in order for the experts/educators/trainers to achieve relevant and high quality skills and competences in designing the appropriate program for tourists and helping them to adopt a new healthy lifestyle. In particular, the GO FIT project was designed to address tourists’ needs to adopt a healthy lifestyle, involving functional exercise. At first, analysis of needs for the tourist population was held. Then, based on this analysis of needs, a new learning program, the Joint Staff Training Event (JSTE), with a transdisciplinary approach for functional exercise, health and tourism experts (target group teachers) developed.Subsequently, the new blended teaching and learning materials was used by academics and clinicians to train the exercise science students to enhance the quality and relevance of their knowledge and skills on: how they will be able to apply functional exercise programs for tourists during their holidays, to prevent musculoskeletal conditions and improve their functional ability of their kinetic system while triggering them to adopt a new healthy lifestyle (target groups: students & tourists). Also, the final GO FIT academic course, which was offered in the HEI partner’s Exercise Science curriculum, will continually enhance the quality and relevance of exercise science students' knowledge and skills, also providing sustainability of the project (target group students). The main goal of the partnership addressed the need to develop a new intensive learning program (focused on transforming ‘ideas into action’ in line with Europe 2020 recommendations) for exercise, health & tourism specialists, which acts as a catalyst for their own professional development. Partners from different countries with transdisciplinary approach were selected and contributed to the present project:Clinical experts with dual role (physiotherapists and orthopedic medicals in Germany, ORTH) on current methods of clinical treatment for common muscular skeletal conditions (i.e. knee pain, shoulder pain, low back pain) and possible preventive strategies, UOS’s (UK) academic staff with knowledge in counseling on current methods how an individual can follow a healthy lifestyle (i.e. Exercise and eating habits), HEI’s staff (DUTH’s, EUC’s & KUC’s) with knowledge and skills in kinetic system’ discomforts, in chronic diseases and in body weight control management through exercise programs and Experts in tourism (TEIA & ALBA). Therefore, the partners teached how all these health promotion programs can be designed and applied in tourists in hotel facilities (gym, pool, gardens, beaches, sea etc) and eventually for general public. This collaboration demanded transnational and transdisciplinary teaching and learning materials to educate exercise leaders and tourists in how a healthy lifestyle can be adopted by them, enhancing and strengthening the role of higher education in EU countries.

Objectives of the project: The partnership has come together under the common belief that health promotion and well-being in the workplace is one of the most pressing concerns European economies are facing. The common goal and vision amongst the partnership members was that there is need for a learning program (transforming ‘ideas into action’ in line with Europe 2020 recommendations) for exercise and health specialists. This program will act as a catalyst for their own professional development and will enhance well-being and quality of life at Work Space at the same time.During the activities of the project: A total of 8 specialists (3 exercise specialists, 2 physical therapists and 3 physicians across GER, EL, NOR and CY between them) collaborated with two non-profit organizations- one with impact on enterprises/policy makers (1 manager, ALBA) and one on innovative technologies (2 IT specialists, IPN). The project contributed to the co-operation within and among a variety of professionals (physical therapists, physicians and exercise experts) connecting practices from different thematic areas to ensure diffusion at workplaces. In specific:• During the 5-day Joint Staff training event 5 exercise and rehabilitation experts -HEI partners (DUTH, HBV, UNIC) -were informed by their physicians partners (3 physicians and one physical therapist, St Anna Hospital, Germany) on current methods of clinical treatment for neck pain and key points for designing therapeutic protocols. Then, the trainers presented the contents of health promotion programs and discussed them with physicians and physical therapists placing emphasis on those addressing neck pain symptoms. For the next stage, specific learning modules and topics for each module were defined by all the partners, based mainly on exercise experts’ knowledge.• The joint curriculum program which was developed and piloted through the 5-day face to face Intensive Study Program and the Online teaching period has been incorporated to the existent curriculum of three HEIs in three different countries, with already calculated ECTS as a grading scale. At the same time, the curriculum program is available online, for every user, through the website of the project. The 27 learners-participants in the development of the curriculum (ISP and long-term distance teaching) had already impact on others via a cascade effect of spreading knowledge and learning which was gained through the program. In this way, there will be a significant impact on exercise specialists’ employment not only in the participating enterprises but also across the EU. • Similarly, 550 office workers who learned to use the multimedia application (3 multiplier events in different companies, one Multinational Greek company (Henkel Hellas, 150 office employees) and 2 Greek companies (APOLLON S.A 250 office employees, AVON 150 employees) and 41 exercise specialists who followed training on THEWS application (multiplier event for exercise specialists: Seminar on THEWS during the 24th International Congress on Physical Education and Sports in Greece) will impact on their colleagues (indirect target groups) hence spreading education and well-being gained through their short participation in the program. •Through the Information Day and other dissemination activities of the project, HR members and Corporate Social Responsibility of enterprises both from the private and public sector acknowledged that the healthier option is the easier option. 104 HR and top Managers participated in this event. Live streaming viewers also took part thus making the number of participants 206 in total. The group consisted of HR Managers from all industry sectors (all major Greek Banks, Multinational Greek companies, Manufacturing, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, Call centers etc). All participants had the chance to see the demonstration of some of the exercises which are included in the multimedia application and learnt how to access the platform. 2000 leaflets were distributed to the HR and top Managers on site. After the Information Day (24th of May) until the end of October 10 companies arranged individual meetings with the coordinator for exploring further cooperation implementing THEWS in a weekly basis and/or organize multiplier events for their employees on site. A well-informed public opinion in combination with provision of condensed and easily accessible information, for all kinds of audiences, will lower health costs and foster productivity as well as work satisfaction among office employees. Easy public access will also bring a wide collection of ‘popularized’ therapeutic exercise information closer to information seekers (neck pain patients, office employees) while the wide dissemination of THEWS results will contribute towards a better understanding of THEWS program potential.

The FABUSS Project (FAmily BUsiness Successful Succession) was co-funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Programme – KA2 Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices – Strategic Partnership for Youth. The project started on 1st February 2017 with a total duration of 24 months. It aimed at helping young people (18-35 years old) who wish to take over their family business and become able and effective successors. The partnership of 9 organisations (https://www.fabuss-project.eu/partners/) from 6 countries (Bulgaria, Cyprus, FYROM, Greece, Italy and Portugal), with the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (www.acci.gr) as Lead partner and Coordinator, having in mind that these aspiring successors need skills and knowledge to effectively develop their businesses, set the following main objectives:•To increase young peoples’ awareness of benefits that family businesses may have for their own career planning,•To identify and inform prospective family businesses successors of problems that might emerge during and after transition and of how these could be overcome,•To promote efficient and effective transition of family businesses ownership and management, and•To upgrade family business successors’ operational, innovation and leadership skills, thus enabling them to maintain past achievements, introduce modern management approaches and promote their competitiveness and growth potentials. The achievement of the FABUSS project’s objectives was ensured through the organisation and implementation of a series of activities in partner countries and the delivery of the following products:1.FABUSS Surveys: Two Surveys were conducted: One on the “environment” for Family Businesses in partner countries and a Second one on Skill Gaps and Training Needs of those who wish to take over their Family Business. Six National Reports were delivered, accompanied by a Synthesis with Executive Summary in all partners’ national languages.2.Six Modules of Innovative Training Material developed along 3 Axes: 1. Awareness of family business management issues, 2. Preparation of effective next generation leaders, 3. Structuring effective governance and business succession mechanisms. All Modules were translated in partners’ national languages.3.FABUSS e-Learning Platform, hosting training materials and accessible to registered Family Business successors.4.Legacy Report, investigating and presenting the project results’ sustainability and development prospects, after its completion, in partner countries and beyond. All FABUSS products and deliverables have been uploaded on the project’s multilingual website: www.fabuss-project.euThe project reached some worth mentioning achievements:•210 young people, who wish to take over their Family Business, participated in training sessions in partner countries.•20 Trainers attended Training of Trainers Workshops.•89% of training participants consider the training offered to be “very useful”, 94% think the experience gained is “valuable”, 85% declare more confident to consider Succession Planning.•15 “Successors”, from different partner countries, participated in online Transnational Learning Exchanges.•182 people, of the “previous” and the “next” generation, participated in Intergenerational Workshops in partner countries.•More than 528,000 people were reached through “information dissemination” activities organised in partner countries. In order to investigate the long term sustainability prospects of project results and the factors and policies conditioning such prospects, selected stakeholders were interviewed in the partner countries, commented on the project results and proposed policy measures that may contribute to successful succession. Analysis and interpretation of interviews material are presented in the project’s Legacy Report. Some key points are:•Without exception, all those interviewed, support the idea that the project’s products and results should be retained, maintained and developed.•Results should be widely disseminated and the associated benefits for Family businesses be shared with new target groups and potentially in more countries.•Sustainability of project products and results will depend on the effectiveness of a range of “support measures and structures”. These include active engagement of actors such as Chambers, Associations or even specialised entities, initiatives for continuous monitoring of family businesses’ knowledge and skill gaps and of associated training and coaching needs. Support services may extend to provision of special incentives for family businesses to make use of available services.•While most of the suggested initiatives relate to the so-called “supply side”, a lot of importance is also placed on the “demand side”, mainly emphasising the need for more users to be considered as potential beneficiaries. In this sense, both “generations” should be targeted, rather than only actual or intended “successors”.
