V.,EN KINT EGYESULET A BEKEERT ES FEJLODESERT,FUNDACIO CATALUNYA VOLUNTARIA,STICHTING THE TREE PARTY,Graphistes de l'OmbreFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2021-1-DE04-KA220-YOU-000028643Funder Contribution: 187,504 EUR<< Background >>Two of the most prominent current societal challenges that are of visible concern for young people are the climate change and the digital transformation of education, work and private life. One goal of the EU Youth Strategy is to “achieve a society in which all young people are environmentally active, educated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives.” While today’s youth-led climate movements show that young people are a great driving force for environmental and sustainable development, many current practices in educational youth work reveal shortcomings in sustainability. This is especially the case for residential activities such as training courses or youth exchanges that often imply air travel, a meat-based diet, or printed materials. Hence, youth organisations across Europe need to revise their practices and enhance the use of environmental principles in their work. Simultaneously, and not only with the Covid-19 pandemic has digitalisation become increasingly important in youth work. While there is a growing number of educational resources on digital youth work available, many youth work practitioners still lack the skills to utilise the potentials of digital tools. In times of “social distancing” many non-formal educators and education providers are obliged to re-think the format of educational youth activities and how to build effective, and entertaining e-learning or blended educational programmes. Also, from an ecological perspective, e-learning offers an alternative to residential activities that often leave a rather big ecological footprint. The urgency of the climate crisis calls for international action. Youth-led climate movements like Fridays for Future show that young people are important agents of change for environmental and sustainable development. To empower their agency and to achieve a “sustainable green Europe” in line with the EU Youth Strategy, this project intends to increase the quality, innovation and recognition of Youth Work.<< Objectives >>The project aims to strengthen the organisational capacities of youth stakeholders to apply more eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work. Therefore, the project will investigate and develop innovative eco-friendly practices for residential youth activities and explore the potentials of e-learning programmes as an eco-friendly strategy to complement and/or replace residential educational activities. The objectives are:●to increase the use of innovative eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work on youth participation among organisations working in the youth field in Europe●to foster an increased dialogue about innovative eco-friendly and sustainable practices within the youth sector in Europe With these objectives, the project contributes to the European Youth Work Agenda. It specifically addresses the Aganda`s objective to support “the ability of youth work to tackle emerging challenges and innovate its practices”.Furthermore, the project relates to the Final Declaration of the 3rd European Youth Work Convention Signposts for the future (December 2020) which highlights the need for innovation in the youth sector and calls for “developing practices and strategies for youth work to enable young people to engage in a democratic society and enable them to bring change on topics that they are already vocal about and interested in (such as the movements connected to climate change, racial discrimination or reproductive health)”.In essence, the project promotes quality and innovation in youth work through strengthening organisational capacities to implement sustainable and eco-friendly youth projects and to trigger a multi-stakeholder European dialogue on eco-friendly practices in youth work. This will be done through the development of innovative open educational resources as follows:●creating practical hand-on recommendations for how to reduce the ecological footprint of residential training activities●developing an innovative and integrated approach to a combined use of digital and classical residential educational practices in blended non-formal educational programmes on youth participation for youth workers and young people●creating concrete step-by-step guidance on how to build standalone or blended e-learning programme on youth participation●developing exemplary educational online components for e-learning programmes on youth participation●making instructive and applicable resources on sustainable educational youth work widely accessible to youth stakeholders to trigger a change of practices among youth stakeholders<< Implementation >>The project is composed of 5 key activities:●Project management activities (PMA)●Transnational project meetings (TPM)●Project results (PR)●Training activities●Multiplier events (ME)Three Project results (PRs) constitute the core project activities. Each of them is designed to generate distinct project outputs that contribute to reaching the project objectives. Therefore, the PR development processes build in a participatory and inclusive manner from 1) mapping existing practices, methods and resources, 2) stakeholder consultations with youth, youth workers, educators, and organisations/ institutions, to 3) collective creative thinking and doing processes in creating the respective output (2 handbooks, e-learning content, web-platform)).With these outputs the project target groups will have the resources at hand to use eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work and to contribute to an evolving dialogue on sustainable youth work in Europe. The two training programmes contribute 1) to the development process of PR1&2 by offering peer review and feedback, 2) allow for the competence development of youth stakeholders on eco-friendly and sustainable practices in youth activities, 2) reinforce the partners networks following the Covid-19 pandemic, and 4) aid the dissemination of the project findings. In this sense, they are a key aspect of the project strengthening content development, competence development of key target groups and enhancing project outreach.Seven multiplier events - side-lined by a wide range of dissemination activities - support the dissemination of the PRs, foster the involvement of key target groups in the project and promote eco-friendly practices in youth projects. Specifically, they serve the following purposes: ●Enabling a structured dialogue on sustainable and eco-friendly practices within the youth sector●Promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the youth sector by providing hands-on advice, recommendations and guidelines and inform about the key project results●Enhance the competences of youth stakeholders to make use of eco-friendly practices●Support the networking of youth stakeholders on sustainable youth work<< Results >>Alongside the objectives, the following results are expected to be achieved by the project. **Objective 1: To increase the use of innovative eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work on youth participation among organisations working in the youth field in EuropeBy the end of the project the educational resources on innovative ideas and practices for sustainable youth work are developed, those are namely:●A handbook (in ENG, GER, FR, CAT, ES, NL and HU) is created on innovative ideas and practical recommendations about “How to make youth projects green” designed for youth stakeholders planning and implementing residential educational youth projects●A handbook (in ENG, GER, FR, CAT, ES, NL and HU) is created on “How to build your e-learning programme” compiling easy-to-apply practices and guidelines for building e-learning content on youth participation designed for youth educators●Exemplary e-learning contents for a variety of educational activities on youth participation are created●An open educational online platform is launched on eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work designed for a wide range of individuals and stakeholders working in the youth sector on youth participation **Objective 2: To foster an increased dialogue about innovative eco-friendly and sustainable practices within the youth sector in EuropeBy the end of the project the following 3 main results will be achieved:●The developed educational resources maintain freely available and have reached a wide range of youth stakeholders via various dissemination channels●A wide range of youth stakeholders (e.g., youth NGOs, CSOs, public bodies, donor programmes) have an increased interests, competences and commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable practices in educational youth work●Dialogue on sustainable practices in youth work has started with donor programmes, agencies, youth ministries and/or private foundations funding educational youth projects on national and European levels

As European citizens, we all have a duty to in protecting and improving the environment around us because it means living better. The European Union, in the last 30 years it has multiplied its initiatives: policies, regulations, controls, anti-pollution interventions, research on environmental innovations, awareness actions, etc. Green growth is at the heart of EU policy to ensure that Europe’s economic growth is environmentally sustainable.Additional jobs are bound to be created in the coming years in order to meet the expected demand generated by fully functioning markets for secondary raw materials. In a lifelong learning perspective, education for sustainable development must not only permeate the entire school cycle, from childhood to university, and professional courses, but must continue further, until it merges with lifelong learning adults, as well as with non-formal and informal education aimed at anyone, moving in synergy and consistency with them. The transition to a circular economy requires an urgent need for new knowledge, skills and approaches. Education, basic and continuous professional training, as well as non-professional training for adults (or ""life long learning""), play a key role in the revision and implementation of knowledge.GENERAL OBJECTIVES The Erasmus ""Protect Yourself"" project aims to create a series of tools and resources to support adult education and to contribute to the development and expansion of their professional and educational know-how in the circular economy.Given these GENERAL OBJECTIVES, we have identified 3 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES that the project will reach at its end:1st SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE: Increase the involvement of adults from partners’ countries to identify, analyze and evaluate the actions to be taken in favor of the climate;2nd SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE: Improve the level of key competences of adult educators in formal and non-formal education to adequately contribute to the adults critical skills development;3rd SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE: Enhance the capacity of adult organizations to help adults take action in favor of the climate and to combat climate change. These SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES have been identified on the basis of the TARGET GROUPs chosen and their NEEDs detected.
