The Europe 2020 goals for a more inclusive Europe with higher social integration and cohesion are more important then ever in light of increasing societal tension linked to the economic crisis, increasing multi-ethnicity and immigration, cuts in public services etc. Young people are particularly affected and the number of antisocial behaviour complaints reflecting incidents involving young people and relating to drugs/alcohol, harassment, property damage, noise etc. is on the increase. This conflict has a high cost: antisocial and conflictive behaviour impedes the development of the young people involved and affects the well being, education, social and economic progress of other young people and society as a whole. Today, municipal authorities are compelled to seek new ways of decreasing conflict and promoting social inclusion, especially among disadvantaged youth. Youth peer-to-peer community mediation is an effective strategy but is still in its infancy in Ireland, UK and Spain, and is virtually unknown in Romania, Slovenia. If its benefits are to be made available to young people, all those actors entrusted with youth services, must undergo a shift in skills training and vision.Young Community Mediators seeks to do just that: bring together youth workers, public authorities and wider stakeholders in an innovative, cross sector Regional Alliance to:a) Create, publish and promote the “Young Community Mediators Toolkit” to encourage the creation of Regional Alliances for peer-to-peer mediation across Europe;b) identify the skills, opportunities and best practices by which young people can be empowered as peer-to-peer mediators in their communities, devising individual and collective commitments to action in five regional action plans; c) Develop, test and optimize an innovative training curriculum and multimedia online course to train youth workers to impart mediation skills to young people in creative and dynamic ways. Young Community Mediators will be delivered by five organizations from the public, private and non-profit sector each with a strong track record in youth work, social inclusion and citizenship, and education. The project will be lead by ROSCOMMON LEADER PARTNERSHIP (RLP), a high profile hub organization working with dozens of regional and national partners. They are joined by Fundación Nuestra Señora Aparecida (Spain), East Belfast Enterprise (UK), Amicii Petru Poni College (Romania) and SPES Association for Cultural Relations (Slovenia.) YCM represents a new generation of youth education projects because of its ability to reach disadvantaged youth and encourage them to become proactively involved in community around them, combating disengagement and isolation on part of both mediators and those who benefit from the mediation. The project positions youth mediation as a new route to increased citizenship and has the advantage of empowering young people to take up a leadership positions among other young people, acquiring useful transversal skills in the process such as problem solving, value creation, negotiation and self esteem. As a result of our project: - hundreds of young people (16 – 30 yr olds), the majority from disadvantaged backgrounds, will acquire knowledge and skills to settle disputes peacefully in schools and neighbourhoods, widening their own confidence, responsibility and skills ultimately useful for employers, and contributing to the wellbeing of those around them. - youth workers and youth work organizations will adopt new strategies to incorporate new skills teaching, thus enhancing the relevance and quality of their work for problems facing youth in daily lives in today’s society- those responsible for youth public policy will find new ways of engaging with hard-to-reach young people, often from disadvantaged backgrounds. - Schools, neighbourhoods and communities will experience increase in wellbeing as more disputes are settled peacefully and less escalate into antisocial or violent acts; with resulting increase in cohesion and potential for future positive change as young people envisage greater role in society. - Stakeholders in the region will understand and actively support integrated approach to ensuring high quality youth work and informal skills training for more and more young people.

The Europe 2020 goals for a more inclusive Europe with higher social integration and cohesion are more important than ever. Increasing societal tension, linked to the economic crisis, immigration and increasing multi-ethnicity, cuts in public services etc. are issues widely faced across Europe. In recent years, Sweden has taken in more refugees per capita than any other European country, which as in other EU countries has fueled tensions and caused a rise in anti-immigrant sentiment. Such conflict has significant cost – both to the ongoing development of the individuals involved, but also to the community and wider stakeholders since antisocial behaviour and conflict affects all aspects of wellbeing, education and economic development. It is evident that new strategies are required to empower newcomers as agents of change in their own lives and in the communities they live in. Two key strategies that are emerging as powerful education/integration tools are 1) community mediation and 2) active inclusion which means enabling every citizen, notably the most disadvantaged, to fully participate in society. A mediator is someone who acts as an arbitrator, negotiator, conciliator, go-between, intermediary, moderator, reconciler, honest broker, and liaison advocate. MCM recognises that educating migrants and refugees in community mediation can play a substantial and positive role in changing social dynamics. Our Migrant and refugee mediators can come from any walk of life but will be trained to act as grassroots brokers and leaders, rather than politicians. Our Migrant Community Mediators will be educated and empowered to provide their communities with a voice and through peer-to-peer mediation and education with their fellow migrants foster inclusion, diversity, equality and intercultural understanding in their new societies. As an additional benefit, the process itself is empowering for the people who take part, as they gain vital knowledge, skills and self-esteem, which are useful for their personal life The OBJECTIVES of MCM are clear :• to enable migrants to have more active participation in society; through the community mediation process our Migrant Community Mediators and their migrant communities will be empowered to become agents of change in their own lives and more active participants in their new societies • to increase self-representation of migrants and refugees to be more visible contributors to civic leadership and media practices - mediators will emerge as informed voices in media debates on the ‘refugee crisis’ and in policy development and resources planning • to improve the digital competences of migrants and encourage them to engage with adult education opportunities both in the classroom and online online • to improve the interconnections between formal, non-formal education, adult education, other forms of learning and labour market respectively• to encourage greater understanding and responsiveness to social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity at the policy level. No issue is more transnational than that of migration and enabling European regions and communities to successfully integrate migrants and refugees is a high priority for the EU; it makes sense that any effort to address these issues should also take place on a transnational basis.and career development. In terms of impact (IOs, combined with our high impact dissemination and exploitation activities) our expected RESULTS within the project’s lifespan include: • 40 - 50 stakeholders (10-12 each in Sweden, France, Ireland and the Netherlands) will introduced to the IO1 Migrant Community Mediators Toolkit and will be knowledgeable and committed to contributing to an ongoing ecosystem of support to nurture migrant community mediation through IO2 Migrant Community Mediators Alliances creating 4 action plans (15+ actions) and mechanisms for ongoing collaboration. - At least 400 downloads of our IO1 Migrant Community Mediators Toolkit by European community leaders, adult educators, public authorities and wider stakeholders across Europe who are interesting and willing to explore the potential of migrant community mediation as a social inclusion tool.- At least 100 Adult Education Organizations will download the IO3 Migrant Community Mediators Open Education Resources for the benefit of hundreds of migrant learners who will be trained and empowered to become Migrant Community Mediators.- 15 adult educators from partner organisations will also be participants in our MCM C1 learning activity.- At least 250 Migrants will join our IO4 MCM Collaborative Learning Platform during the project lifetime. At NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL level, the project will contribute to systemic improvements in the training of both adult educators and the migrant and refugee community leading to an increase in self-representation of migrants and refugees to be more visible contributors both to civic leadership.

EMINENT addresses two key priorities in the EU: Social inclusion of migrants and increasing the number of female entrepreneurs. The contribution of migrant entrepreneurs is something that is becoming more widely recognized, as issues surrounding immigration become frequent and topical points for discussion. However, the important contribution of female migrant entrepreneurs is a factor that is mostly overlooked. The UK, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands are among the countries that have introduced measures to improve the institutional framework for female enterprise – but much more needs to be done especially to overcome the specific individual barriers for female migrants. This applies especially as those countries are among the countries that show above-average numbers of migrants and refugees. The problem is that our VET institutions are ill-equipped to do so: most are unspecialized in the specific strategies that are shown to work best with female migrant entrepreneurs and their staff are especially not trained to implement appropriate culture-sensitive teaching methods. In this context, EMINENT has a clear goal: increase the number of female migrant entrepreneurs by transforming their access to and the quality of the training they receive from entrepreneurship VET institutions. To do so, we will: a) Develop a Compendium of Good Practice presenting good practice on engaging with women from minority groups and culturally appropriate and effective pedagogical techniquesb) Create, publish and trial a Curriculum and Classroom Course that provides the knowledge and skills needed for female entrepreneurs to gain the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to establish and successfully run their own businessc) Create an interactive knowledge platform acting as a multi-dimensional learning hub and exchange platform for female migrant entrepreneurs, VET and stakeholdersd) Design and implement innovative learning placements for 20 female migrants with start-up potential in successful (preferably female led) businesses. The project methodology is highly participative at all stages, involving our three main target groups (training providers such as enterprise centres, colleges and incubators; female migrant entrepreneurs and wider stakeholders) in the following ways: - At least 20 female migrants will participate in the pilot testing of the classroom course- At least 20 female migrants will participate in the EMINENT Placement Programme- At least 60 female migrants will participate in the trial of the Interactive Learning Platform and OERs- At least 35 experts in (female) migrant support and professional entrepreneurship teachers and trainers will be deeply involved in the resource development and testing. - At least 135 representatives of stakeholder organizations will participate in multiplier events. - Approximately 7,500 individuals will engage with the interactive online platform with OER.Thanks to improved exposure/availability and improved quality of entrepreneurship education opportunities, EMINENT will generate an increase in the overall number of potential and existing female migrant entrepreneurs engaged in continuing VET and it is more likely that early stage female migrant entrepreneurs grow their ideas into successful enterprises in the short term.As a result of the EMINENT educational resources, managers, teachers and trainers in VET institutions will overcome existing bias, update their own skills and modify service provision in their institutions to be more inclusive and better support female migrant entrepreneurs. At regional level, the project will create a more enabling environment for female migrant entrepreneurs and generate the knowledge sharing and feedback loops which will contribute to ongoing improvement and the development of further initiatives.(Female) migrant inclusion and female entrepreneurship are a particularly important areas of focus across Europe. For this reason, we believe EMINENT will not only generate significant impact at local level but will capture the attention of policy makers and actors further up the ladder nationally and across Europe. In addition, the project has been designed to respond to a genuine need experienced by partner organizations and their counterparts in the vocational education, entrepreneurship support and economic development, all of whom have a vested interest in using the outputs and sustaining the impacts in the long term.
