SMEs, despite comprising the backbone of EU economy and playing a vital role for its growth and development, are in the midst of this global transition towards a digital and green economy and society lagging behind its tremendous benefits and potential, especially for the micro & small ones and the self-employed. This digital gap has increased inequalities allowing for an increased inclusiveness gap since SMEs make the most of the industrial fabric in many EU countries creating the majority of jobs and being the cement of inclusive and sustainable societies. COVID-19 pandemic has further hindered traditional ways of doing business highlighting their vulnerability and increasing the necessity and pace for change and adaptation to the distance economy disruption apart from the challenges posed by the digital transformation of the emerging 4th Industry Revolution. This unpreparedness of SMEs to harness the potential benefits in productivity and competitiveness deriving from adopting digital technologies for inclusive growth results from their lack of support and orientation to identify their needs or the value proposition and understand the potential game changer the digital ecosystem provides. SMEs are often not aware of innovation potentials, struggle to understand what to digitalize, which technology to use, how to prioritize goals, and which organizational changes (e.g. skills and roles) are required. This highlights the need for systematic guidance through support units.<< Objectives >>Against this context, enabling self-employed, micro & SMEs’ digitalisation with supportive strategies for their introduction and orientation has become centrepiece for inclusive growth in EU. Roadmaps providing step-by-step guidance through the digital ecosystem landscape from simple technologies such as e-commerce, e-invoicing and e-payment to more interconnected systems such as e-platforms and digital marketing and further forward to the new generation of technologies such as Big Data, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Augmented Reality and Robotics with simple, concrete and practical examples and micro-learning experiences can be viewed as top priority and urgent catalyst for uplifting the barriers and constraints SMEs face to grow digitally and optimise their capacity for skills and resources for their digital enablement. #SMEsGoDigital project strategic objectives if to provide this supportive ecosystem in the form of a Tech hub, a one-stop-place for stakeholders providing awareness, orientation and digital competence to guide our target groups, micro & SMEs manpower and self-employed through their digital transformation of their business models.<< Implementation >>The project will deliver four main Project Results (PRs) consisting of a number of tasks and subtasks framed by three multiplier events in the form of Thematic Workshops aligned with certain PRs for feedback and dissemination purposes and the Final Conference for maximization of the project’s impact. The PRs to be developed for #SMEsGoDigital tool are as follows:1.Design of #SMEsGoDigital tool•Design of the #SMEsGoDigital online platformoDefinition of requirements with focus group discussions and extant research identified through literature review;oBlueprint of the online portal functionalities answering the stakeholders’ needs as mapped; •Design of the supportive orientation programmeoDefinition of three-level roadmap towards digital transformation, basic, standard and advanced, with incremental stepwise benchmarksoDefinition of digital transformation mapping criteria and design of digital readiness self-assessment questionnaire •Design of incremental stepwise micro-learning experiences oCompetence-based course design for the SMEs professionals (management and employees) continuous professional development of digital skills and awareness of current trends based on bite-size, practical, real-life examples, scenarios and best practices ->Multiplier Event: Workshop with micro and small SME’s manpower and self-employed to validate the requirements and the blueprint process 2.Development of the #SMEsGoDigital tool•Development of the #SMEsGoDigital online portal•Development of supportive orientation programme•Development of digital skills and awareness e-course->Multiplier Event: Workshop with micro & SMEs and self-employed professionals and stakeholders for feedback on the PR2 deliverables and participatory action plan invitation 3.Piloting of the #SMEsGoDigital tool->Multiplier Event: Workshop with micro & SMEs and self-employed professionals and stakeholders for participatory action plan with applicable implementation of innovation1.Sustainability & Exploitation plan framed with Policy Recommendations->Multiplier Event: Workshop with micro & SMEs and self-employed professionals and stakeholders for launching the #SMEsGoDigital tool (Final Conference)<< Results >>#SMEsGoDigital project is a dedicated online tool tailored to the SMEs requirements for guidance, skills and resources to fuel capitalisation on their digital business models and processes transformation fociusing on the micro and small enterprises and self-employed. An online Tech hub initiative which aspires to develop a single point of entry for businesses combining a competence centre with the required resources for the digital gap via micro-learning experiences to help SMEs to understand and implement Digital Transformation initiatives and practical sector specific orientation provision in one convenient online location providing a holistic ecosystem. This is reflected in EU strategies as well : https://ec.europa.eu/growth/industry/sustainability/corporate-social-responsibility_en2)Why is this project needed ? • Many of the challenges Europe faces require businesses or support from businesses to create innovative solutions. • Businesses created innovation, jobs, and wealth, and yet they equally caused (or contributed) to some of our biggest problems: climate change, inequality, public health, etc. • Conscious companies in contrast create innovative solutions for real problems, but without the collateral damage to some of their stakeholders – be it towards nature, employees, health, equality, or local communities. • It is of paramount importance to educate current and future business leaders regarding how to manage more consciously so that potential damage is eliminated or minimised, and to increase benefits to society and the planet. We aim to address this challenge.<< Objectives >>Objectives of Project • Create and teach an innovative business syllabus which includes Conscious Business Practices for bachelor-, graduate- & executive-level education. • Describe and teach innovative methodologies regarding how business students can become more conscious leaders. • Based upon the Syllabus, develop and train current business leaders in-company regarding how to practice business more consciously. • The ultimate objective, having delivered successfully upon the beforementioned 3 objectives, is to help transform how companies are led. By applying conscious business practices on behalf of all stakeholders, society, environment, employees, suppliers, employees, and shareholders, ALL stakeholders shall benefit.(* : See studies explained in the book : Firms of Endearment by Raj Sisodia)Our Conscious Business Syllabus is innovative compared to how “mainstream” business is taught today in 5 discrete ways:1)Embeds ethics and ethical dilemmas in every course we teach. Management without a solid ethical compass too often results in negative collateral damage to communities, the environment, and employees. As a consequence, we want to educate business leaders regarding how conscious businesses, through its principles, fosters ethical behaviour, inclusion, and diversity.2)Promotes the development of conscious leaders. Leaders, generally speaking, need to serve people in and around firms. Our courses stimulate reflection and development of leaders to become more system-oriented, ethical, inclusive, and consciously aware of the impact of their decisions and actions. 3)Emphasizes Stakeholder Integration. Today’s dominant management practice of shareholder primacy has resulted in huge wealth for shareholders at the expense of the other stakeholders (which include the environment, local communities, employees, suppliers, and society). Shareholder primacy is rooted in zero-sum thinking, in which someone wins and everyone else loses. We outline proven ways in our courses to manage companies in which all stakeholders gain..4)Purpose Driven. The primary objective today of most companies is to maximise profits. Conscious companies instead optimise for their higher purpose, which includes addressing real societal needs, while making profit. We teach the superiority of purpose-driven companies in our courses.5)In our 21 courses, we offer a wide range of innovative conscious business practices grounded in teaching and research conducted at our partner universities (see reference to courses in Annex).<< Implementation >>The project activities consist of 7 main blocks of activities:1.Validate requirements for innovative conscious business concepts and practices from companies and design overall syllabus.2.Prepare and plan creation of innovative business courses through collection of available empirical data, literature screening, and exchange with partner universities and business schools.3.Create innovative business courses that enhance classic business teachings (e.g., strategic management, organisation, leadership, marketing, etc.) which include more conscious ways to conduct business.4.Pilot innovative courses in multiple ways.5.Share and teach Conscious Business Syllabus in a series of 4 Multiplier Events to interested professors of European business faculties.6.Teach Conscious Business Syllabus directly to Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs with adapted in'company trainings.7.Continuously improve and expand the Conscious Business Syllabus through a growing network of conscious business professors and faculties.<< Results >>The primary Output of the project is the creation and teaching of 21 courses on Conscious Business that together will form a Conscious Business Syllabus. Each course is a fully-fledged 30-hour university course which fits into a university semester. All courses will be fully integrated into the university curricula and schedule of the partner universities so that students are eligible for credits. This practice will be carried forward into our trainings of european business faculties. The list of university courses is as followsBachelor Level•Introduction to Conscious Capitalism (MBS)•The 4 tenets of Conscious Capitalism (MBS)•Conscious Marketing and Communications (JMU Würzburg)•Integrated Reporting (IC Erasmus)•Conscious Organisations (MBS)•Conscious Leadership Principles (MBS)•Cross-Cultural management and leadership (Palacký)Graduate Level•Performance and Progress (NOVA)•Strategic Risk & Governance; An Ethical Approach (UPF-BSM)•Theory of Change (ICE)•Strategic Conscious Marketing (JMU Würzburg)•Conscious Logistics and Supply Chain Mgmt (UPF-BSM)•Sustainable Finance (NOVA)•Financial Mgmt (UPF-BSM)•Impact Investing (NOVA)•(Non)-financial Value Creation (ICE)•Conscious Organisation Transformation (MBS)•Conscious Entrepreneurship (MBS)•Impact Entrepreneurship (NOVA)•Conscious Leadership (MBS)•Value-Based Banking (UPF-BSM)Executive Education •The most relevant graduate courses will be adapted and shared for executive education during this project. In a second step, a selected number of these courses will be adapted for in-company training targeted at company leaders.Specific to the 3 target groups introduced above the outputs are• Output for professors/teachers : oAccess to 21 innovative courses on Conscious Business practices and related conceptsoTraining programs to deliver the courses, face-to-face or virtual oNetwork of conscious faculties across EuropeoBecome acquainted and connect with conscious companies presented in coursesoEnablement to conduct empirical research to substantiate innovative courses• Output for students : oComprehensive and state-of-art education on conscious business principles and related concepts and practicesoEnhance awareness of self to become a conscious leader• Output for enterprises, especially small and midcap businesses : oSubset of 21 courses adapted to in-company training on conscious business practices. The Higher Education Institutions (HEI) will benefit from this cooperation with companies because we create a direct link between the needs of company leaders and the courses taught in Universities.

Istituto Superiore Internazionale Salesiano di Ricerca EducativaFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2020-1-IT01-KA202-008523Funder Contribution: 299,968 EURThe project arises from the observation of the exponential increase economic and social vulnerability needs andsituations, generated by economic crises, identifying that one of the possible solutions to this emergency is the creationof innovative business models. It becomes essential for enlightened entrepreneurs, especially in countries that have a fragile socio-economic fabric, such as Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia, Italy and Spain, to identify the value, in terms of the social impact of their businessor the social effect that each intervention generates on the community or on specific categories of beneficiaries. In this context of uncertainty, there is a new way of doing business: a model is introduced that sets aside forever theoutdated yardstick of profit as the only objective and parameter to assess the health of an entrepreneurial activity, choosing transparency, 360 ° sustainability (economic, social and environmental) and responsibility towards allstakeholders, including the environment and future generations as the guiding values. The need for skills, tools and approaches aimed at measuring and managing this value also increases, the developmentof which will be crucial for the evolution of the business ecosystem and social innovation in the EU.To date, 3,086 Benefit Corporations are certified in 150 sectors and 71 different countries. In Italy, despite being the first country in the world, after the USA, to have introduced the legal form of BenefitCompany as of 1 January 2016, there are almost 100 B-Corps; just 50 in Spain, while for Greece, Slovenia and Bulgariathere are long delays (Certified B-Corporation Community, 2020).Furthermore, in recent years, most of the studies and tools carried out have focused on large companies. With the SIMPLE project, on the other hand, we want to identify sustainability paths, business models and impactmeasurement methodologies that consider the specific features of SMEs, which constitute the production fabric of theEU countries involved, capitalizing on good business practices at national, European and international level.SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:1) To develop for 60 SME workers in Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Greece and Bulgaria, skills in social sustainability in termsof strategic paths, business models, organizational processes, measurement tools with the development and systematicadoption of a shared blended training offer (IO1 - TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR SUSTAINABILITY ANDSOCIAL BUSINESS INNOVATION)2) Promote digital integration in learning activities with the co-design and development of:a) Open Educational Resources, in the form of interactive, video pills for the corporate population of SMEs, in theEU partner reference territorial contexts, to increase a skills set in terms of social sustainability useful for theirorientation towards social innovation and immediate application in the business and work environmentb) SIM-Game (Social Impact Measurement Game) which, exploiting gaming and gamification logics, will be aninteractive recreational-educational container structured in episodes, each of which relates to skills and relative openeducational resources, capable of marking the evaluation process concurrently with learning, generating engagement, motivation and self-awareness.(IO2 - INTERACTIVE AND GAMIFIED OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES)3) Align 24 partnership trainers and consultants, involved in two transnational mobilities to:a) acquire the methodological references of INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN to elaborate the contents of the OER to berealized by producing interactive, training video pills and GAME-BASED LEARNING to incorporate and functionalizethe dynamics and game based mechanics to be applied to learning processes exploiting game logics to create a selectiveand detailed evaluation process on specific areas of competence and determining behaviours of corporate socialsustainabilityb) implement the functional plan to guide the target SMEs to measure social impact and guide learners in its applicationin target companies during company check-ups.4) Co-elaborate and standardize methods and tools to measure and manage social impact in target SMEs to allowworkers to conduct corporate check-ups to photograph the actual with respect to the planned social innovationobjectives and trace an action plan to guide companies in redesigning the business model by orienting their objectivesand methods to B-Corp and benefit Company logics. Employers can thus play an active role in the preparation of students and graduates for their future careers. The project is focused on the creation of an online platform titled ""Apprenticeship Inter-Network"", which will host three national Career Hubs (Greek, Italian, and Spanish). Each Career Hub (CH) will facilitate the students' and graduates' search for apprenticeships or jobs through relevant databases, enhance their competences and skills by offering guidance and organizing or announcing special events (seminars, webinars, information events, study visits, presentations, job fairs, etc.), support their contact and collaboration with employers and other labour market stakeholders, ensure their familiarization with important sectoral issues, etc. It is to be noted that, within the context of the project, VET-related institutions and associations, social partner institutes, Municipalities, and Chambers will contribute to the efficiency of Career Hubs by inviting local enterprises, employers and employer associations to join the CH databases in order to be directly networked with apprentices, graduates and future employees. A particularly innovative aspect of the project consists in the establishment of a new intermediary role: that of the “Business Ambassadors”, namely established professionals, employers or other business staff members who will inform/advise students and graduates on current labour market needs and trends, occupational “problem-solving”, business development prospects, etc. The Business Ambassadors will support CHs as volunteers, thus demonstrating both their personal and their businesses' interest in corporate social responsibility.Just as importantly, the project will greatly benefit disadvantaged groups of students and graduates, such as disabled young people and young people living in remote geographical areas etc., who have limited access to labour-market information and the labour market itself. The proposed project can thus be said to constitute a genuinely inclusive form of networking and labour market integration. As stated, all three CHs will be interconnected within the framework of a transnational online platform, titled ""Apprenticeship Inter-Network"" (AIN). Users of each national CH (which will be bilingual: EL/EN, IT/EN, ES/EN) will have the chance to be informed about developments in the other two countries, thus ensuring a direct exchange of good practices, expertise, information and knowledge about work-based learning, Apprenticeship, and labour market integration. Moreover, it is a conscious objective of the project partners to see the AppInternN include more EU countries and relevant institutions in its e-community, which will recognize its practical utility and further contribute to the promotion of Apprenticeship as a way of enhancing youth employability throughout the European Union."
