Among those the Action 9 “Better target Rural Development to biodiversity needs and develop tools to help farmers and foresters work together towards biodiversity conservation” highlights the necessity to develop rural strategies and programmes tailored for regional and local levels. The Action 10, from the same strategy, aims to “conserve and support genetic diversity in Europe's agriculture” emphasize the significant importance of elaborating specific agri-environmental measures to support genetic diversity in agriculture as well as a strategy for the conservation of genetic diversity. The EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) stresses that “clarity about land tenure, use and access to natural resources and knowledge” as well as “monitoring and carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment and taking measures” will help to create a pro-biodiversity agriculture. Indeed, “farmers and landowners should have the means to lower the impacts that their activities have on habitats and species”. The food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Commission on genetic resources for food and agriculture report “State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food andAgriculture” evidence that the biodiversity that underpins our food systems is disappearing, putting the future of our food, livelihoods, health and environment under severe threat. Once lost, all the species that support our food systems and sustain the people who grow and/or provide our food, cannot be recovered. Less biodiversity means that plants and animals are more vulnerable to pests and diseases. Thus, the food supply industry and the agricultural sectors should work on a common long-term perspective strategy aimed at activating food security and environmental preservation. The EU policy in the field aims to harness AR and AI to increase yields and motivate farmers around the world. “For vine crops like cannabis, tomatoes and cucumbers, a grower can get 500% more per square meter just by knowing how to take care of the plant, so augmentation through augmented reality has so much potential. The current high demand for food and the growing trend of population ask for actions in the field of food production. The projections of the High Level Expert Forum show that feeding a world population of 9.1 billion people in 2050 would require raising overall food production by some 70 percent between 2005/07 and 2050.Macedonia, Turkey, Greece are one of the world leaders in quality food production and farming of plenty and high-quality agriculture. Yet the opportunities for VET of famers and food producers are very limited, especially in the partners’ language and online. “Innovative Training-Augmented Reality for Green Food '' (IT-ARGF) project, is created to educate farmers in order to prevent farmland biodiversity disappearing and maximise crops capacity by providing tools and knowledge through technology.<< Objectives >>The project aims at piloting innovative vet curricula providing vet in the field of organic food production with comprehensive competences (knowledge and skills) as well as an innovative technological instrument to enhance biodiversity conservation and performances in the agricultural sector.Natural areas, including agricultural fields, are influenced by human activities and their sustainable maintenance is only possible with ongoing human intervention. Organic food production and biodiversity preservation are interconnected. The overall objective is to increase the level of competences in the fields of organic food production and contribute to enhancement of biodiversity through a technological framework for joint action.<< Implementation >>The project activities will bring together professors and researchers in biodiversity and organic food production from one side and training providers and IT developers from the other side, in a quest to create innovative Intellectual Outputs that will answer the needs of the target groups and will comply with the EU and UN policy framework. The project will develop the following IOs:IO1 – E-learning platform- VET for organic farmingIO-2 – Handbook for using the AR application for VET educatorsIO-3 - Augmented Reality Application<< Results >>Use of technology in farming, environment protection, carbon footprint, protection of biodiversity…are the core issues that the EU prioritizes. The European Commission calls on Member states to take advantage of the potential of new technologies and digitisation in agriculture, with the aim to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector, while simplifying the daily work of farmers. This will be necessary to achieve the objectives set by the current and future common agricultural policy (CAP ) . Following the declaration for “a smart and sustainable digital future for European agriculture and rural areas” signed by most Member States in April, the Commission met with Member States on 15 May 2019 to present and discuss new technologies and digitisation in agriculture highlighting the advantages and opportunities it offers for the sector. Through the CAP, the Commission aims to facilitate its development at national and regional level. Innovation and the use of new technologies offer win-win solutions in agriculture. This means combining benefits for the environment and climate while increasing efficiency and competitiveness. However, the uptake of new technologies remains far below expectations and varies from one country to another. TR, MKD and GR farming is done by old and traditional methods. Farmers, VET schools, universities do not have accessible, affordable and achievable OERs to use. This gap needs to be addressed to ensure that everyone, including the VET schools, NGOs, Universities and small and medium-sized farmers, can access technology and benefit from it. In line with these, project’s duration expected results (The project results are coherent to the project specific objectives (SO) :SO 1- To create comprehensive practical framework for VET educators based on the needs of VET learners Results:1.1. -Developed research report for VET educators containing training needs of farmers and interactive as a map of stakeholders and existing offers in the framework of digital education, mentoring and co-working approaches.1.2. -Raised awareness about the resources available by different EU funds in the field of agricultureSO 2- To pilot e-learning in the field of organic farmingResults:2.1 -Developed e-learning platform with educational materials and on the job training resources created by university professors and researchers in the field enhanced by non-formal education methodology provided by VET experts2.2 -Increased level of collaboration between universities, VET providers and IT companies.2.3 -Organized several nationwide seminars.2.4 –Organized workshops with farmers in the use of IT informing. SO 3- To promote the use of Augmented Reality technology in farming.Results:3.1 -Developed Handbook for using the Augmented Reality application3.2 -Increased level of understanding of farming related parameters3.3 -Developed Augmented Reality application3.4 -Increased level of IT tools used in on the job training and VET education in the field of organic farming.SO 4- To enhance the level of cross-sectoral collaboration in the field organic farmingResults:4.1- Increased level of involvement of local policy-making authorities in the design of specific policies targeted at promoting and supporting biodiversity conservation in the agricultural field. 4.2 -Increased number of follow up initiatives and new projects in the field4.3- Raised awareness about the importance of VET education in a circular economy perspective.
