"The chief goal of the ""SAFEMEDIC"" project was to improve the workplace safety of healthcare professionals by increasing their skills and competences in dealing with difficult situations. To achieve this, the project consortium designed and developed a complex multi-stakeholder, inter-disciplinary course for healthcare students, predominantly focused on paramedics and nurses. The didactic materials and project’s intellectual outputs may also be helpful for other health workers such as physicians and physiotherapists. The International Labor Organization has recognized the medical profession as the second most vulnerable occupational group in the workplace. Our needs analysis proved that violence against healthcare professionals is a serious problem across Europe. Below are some of our findings: Out of the persons who had had prior experience with patients only 5,9% said that they had never been verbally assaulted by patients and 62,5% were victims of physical assault by patients at least once. 83,4% of respondents claimed that healthcare professionals are more or much more likely to be victim of verbal and physical assault during work then other professions. 47,1% have never taken part in a course on how to deal with threatening situations in the workplace, while only 19,6% of them took part in a course catered for the medical professions at work or at university. Only 7,8% of respondents answered that healthcare professionals in their countries receive rather enough training in dealing with threatening situations in the workplace. 54,9% answered ""definitely not"" and 37,3% answered ""rather not"". To the question ""Do you feel that a practical course to support health care professionals deal with aggressive patients would increase the overall safety of health care professionals?"" 43,1% answered ""definitely yes"" and 47,1% answered ""rather yes"". This project combined the knowledge and experience of 6 international partners to create a comprehensive interactive online course for healthcare professionals on how to act in difficult situations at the workplace. The project was addressed mainly to students of medical sciences. All partner universities integrated the course in their regular teaching programme. We suggest other European universities to do the same. The course is around 80 hours of learning time and we suggest 4 ECTS points for anyone who finishes all 4 modules. The course will also be of great use to persons already working in healthcare. The course was created specifically so that most of it can be taught via blended learning. The whole course is available online on Moodle and the practical part will be accessible in the form of learning materials, allowing an instructor to conduct practical training. After logging onto the website https://moodle.safemedic.eu you will find yourself in the ""cockpit"" of five SAFEMEDIC courses, where you choose the language version of the course. The following versions are available:English, Czech, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Slovenian. The course materials can be used sequentially or selectively, depending on your needs. The learning content of the course is organized into the following modules:· Introductory section· Module 1-1: Violence and aggression - anthropological perspective· Module 1-2: Violence and aggression - psychological perspective· Module 2-1: Violence and aggressive behaviour - legal perspective· Module 2-2: Risk management· Module 3: Negotiations· Module 4: Techniques of de-escalating aggression in patients in a hospital settingTo access the course, you need to create your account, which is done automatically and the only information you are expected to provide is your name and e-mail address. In this way you will acquire the “Student” status, which will give you access to all the materials needed by a learner. To use all the resources of the course you need the “Non-editing teacher” status – if you need it, please contactthe administrator of the course.Every educational institution wishing to use the course as its own should contact the administrator, download the full package of the course free of charge and place it on its moodle platform (which will allow making any changes and/or amendments, enlisting students and observing their operations on the platform, etc.). Since almost all the videos are streamed, the whole course is compressed to only ca. 300 MB.A printed handbook was also created with instructions on how to access and use the online materials, how to prepare and conduct practical classes, and with many additional resources. The leader of the project – Lipinski University in Kielce, Poland (Wyższa Szkoła Ekonomii, Prawa i Nauk Medycznych im.prof. Edwarda Lipińskiego, www.wseip.edu.pl) is ready to provide teachers and students with the printed version of “The Guide”. The book, as many other educational materials, are also available for download from the course platform."

"The SenQuality project addresses the topic of individual later life preparation in order to support well-being in old age.Demographic ageing is likely to be of major significance in the coming decades. Low birth rates and higher life expectancy will lead to a much older population structure. In 2018 about one fifths of the EU-28 populated were 65 years and older. During the next decades this is expected to gradually increase up to 28.5 % in 2050 (eurostat, Ageing Europe, 2019). The demographic change will have far-reaching implications. Expected cuts in social security systems, challenges for the health and care systems etc. emphasize an increased responsibility of individuals to prepare for later life. But also personal age-related changes influence future well-being. This includes bodily changes, role transitions when retiring but also loosing independence or trusted people. Several studies have shown that planning and preparing for age related changes is associated with increased well-being in later life, e.g. Noone et.al., Preretirement planning and well-being in later life, 2009; Yeung & Zhou, Planning for Retirement: Longitudinal Effect on Retirement Resources and Post-retirement Well-being, 2017; Preston et.al., Planning and preparing for later life, 2018. However, many people have not thought much about their later life nor taken future-oriented actions. The aim of the project is to raise awareness for the importance of planning for later life in a positive way and offer an individual, easy-accessible and flexible planning tool for own measures. The main result will be an online platform at which adults can search and find answers for their personal later life planning. This will be done with the help of self-reflection and different material and good practices as inspiration for a concrete action-plan.Preparation will not only concern financial aspects, which some persons might see as difficult to influence, but nine different life domains:- Finances- Emergencies & Exceptional Circumstances- Mental & Physical Fitness - Housing- Looks & Appearance - Social relationships- Health - Leisure Activities & Lifestyle- Work& Employment. The project follows by this the assumptions of Anna E. Kornadt (University of Luxemburg) and Klaus Rothermund (University of Jena) who see preparation as a lifelong and multidimensional process and defined in their studies these domains (e.g. Preparation for old age in different life domains, 2014). Preparations are considered for an active ‘""third age"", where the loss of the work role and its substitution with leisure activities or bridge employment are relevant, and for a ‘‘fourth age’’ in which the deterioration of one’s health, dependence/independence, generativity issues, and closeness to death becomes more important. The main target group of this project are therefore adults in their middle age between 40 and 65 as well as seniors in their 3rd age around retirement. They will be the direct beneficiaries of the preparation tool. Piloting is foreseen with 175 adult learners. In addition, also adult educators, counsellors, psychologists and other related professional groups will be involved as participants to contribute to the different IOs but also to benefit from the self-reflection concept and the online platform for own counselling offers. In a first Intellectual Output, “Domains for later life preparation”, an information pack will be elaborated with description, concrete information and advice on the nine domains relevant for later life incl. good practice examples for preparation. This will form an individual result but also the basis for the contents of the online platform on later life planning. The 2nd output contains the development of a methodological framework as concept for assessment, self-reflection and action plan in the nine domains concerned. It will ask about the current situation and where it should go (plans, hopes, values etc.) besides supporting to find individual answers what to do to reach the own aims. Both outputs lead to an online platform for later life planning (IO3) as main result of the project. After introductions into each domain, the current situation of the users will be illuminated in form of a self-reflection, based on the conceptional framework developed in IO2. Good practice examples and different also country specific sources and materials will serve as inspiration for own planning. The impact of the SenQuality project will be an increased motivation of adults to prepare for later life in a stage in which this still can be influenced in addition to an increased knowledge on how to plan for later life. Considering the demographic changes in Europe and its related challenges but also individual challenges for people in getting older, there is no doubt about the necessity of individual preparation for later life. The topic is of societal interest. The project intents to offer a European solution for a European problem."

"RENE-project is set to improve and unify the patient handling education in health care sector. At the moment in Europe the patient handling skills are included into students’ curricula in various other topics which may cause poor quality and inefficient learning outcomes. The workplace safety issues and the use of risk management tools, the proper communication with the patient and the knowhow and skills on right handling techniques are central in managing patient handling in changing environments and situations. According to national and international statistics, the healthcare staff have a very high risk of musculoskeletal disorders, derived mainly from poor manual patient handling practices. Most back injuries of health care workers happened during manual patient handling. This highlights the need for proper focus on patient handling already in Bachelor level studies. RENE-project develops 5 ECT international course of patient handling in safe and rehabilitating way for health care students in European HEIs participating RENE. The European project consortium, altogether with seven higher education institutions (HEI’s) and two institutions of expertise on this field, the The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) and Ergosolutions Ltd. aim at increasing patient handling skills in safe and rehabilitating way of HEI staff and health care students in all participating countries. Project aims to develop and standardize an international course on patient handling and promotes internationalization of health care students. One of the aims is also to raise awareness of patient handling in safe and rehabilitating way in field of health care. The RENE project is based on three phases which form three Intellectual Outputs (IO). The first phase, “Analysing the conditions”, IO 1, will work as a basis for the second phase “Developing the SAPHA-course"" (SAPHA-Patient handling in safe and rehabilitating way), IO 2. The third phase is the “Handbook”, IO3, which will be designed to support the practical implementation of the developed course and is directed to teachers. The Handbook (printed and especially e-version) will act as a tool for sustainability ensuring that the project’s results remain available after the project has ended. The project will strengthen the skills and knowledge of the students and HEI staff in the field of ergonomics and increase the skills in patient handling in safe and rehabilitating way by workshops, intensive weeks for students and teachers as well as in work-life projects. It will raise the quality of patient handling and ergonomics education in health care and introduce novel pedagogic solutions to the health care education."

<< Background >>Sarcopenia, an age-related loss of muscle mass and power, was recently recognized by the WHO as a disease. The most widely cited operational definition nowadays is proposed by the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) has been updated in January 2019 which makes sarcopenia as a rather new disease. On one hand there is the fact that the worlds’ population is ageing (United Nations,2019). On the other hand, there is the world facing major health issues such as cancer and more recently COVID-19 pandemic which makes sarcopenia as a disease high relevant.European consensus on sarcopenia is very recent. Currently no courses for general practitioners or health care workers exist across European boarders. There is a high need for knowledge and new skills among different target groups in order to deal with sarcopenia in a similar way. The EU would benefit from comparable courses in line with EQF/ECVET. European harmonizing trainings according to EQF does not even take place on national levels to a satisfying extent. There is a great need to create comprehensive teaching units within valid EU-systems. Many stakeholders are dealing with sarcopenia (in research, in the working field, …) however often only one single topic has been focused on, while sarcopenia asks for a multi-factorial approach. Furthermore, no translation of research findings or practical experiences from the working field has been brought together and translated into good training concepts and education. Last year new training concepts were developed due to the COVID pandemic. There has been more attention for online learning or a combination of both traditional education and online training. This project will cover following needs:1/ bring knowledge and skills among health care workers on the new but very relevant topic of sarcopenia2/ develop new training concepts in line with the most recent standards of online learning3/ bring together different fields of expertise 4/ disseminate the obtained results to a diverse group of health care workers (GPs, nurses and physiotherapists)5/ building a sustainable partnership all over Europa<< Objectives >>The project aims to establish a comprehensive curriculum, to develop an innovative eLearning concept, to implement and test it by learners and trainers and to establish it in participating institutions/organizations. In this way the project enables the training concept being intertwined in different health care organizations. The tailormade training concept and eLearning will be developed considering the principles of shared decision making and cocreation. The ambition is situated in achieving following results: -A cross sectoral approach with input of different sectors. This makes the training concept and eLearning is not focusing on a single topic but includes all relevant topics such as nutrition, exercise and screening.-A new training concept in line with the most recent standards of online learning and in line with the European standards of Education (EQVET)-Not reaching a single target group but reaching a wide range of health care professionals such as nurses, GPs and physiotherapists.-Having built a sustainable partnership in Europe to tackle sarcopenia<< Implementation >>Following activities will be implemented:A communication plan will be developed by the project coordinator. Regular online meetings will be organised with the different project partners to follow up the progress in obtaining the project results. VIVES will take account for the quality of all processes leading to the successful accomplishment of the project goals and objectives by checking the indicators of achievement (outputs) at relevant frequencies and to carry out a correct time management.Seven transnational meetings will be organised. The meetings will be used to make sure project objectives will be obtained by preparing and discussing all relevant outputs. Also, dissemination activities and the organization of the multiplier events will be on the agenda of the meetings. Focus groups and test events with the target groups will be organised by the partners to get input on the development of a good training concept and appropriate eLearning materials and to get feedback on the developed outputs. Two LTTA’s will take place. LTTA 1 will bundle relevant knowledge, skills and good practices concerning organizing and supporting co-creation sessions. LTTA 2 will focus on the pilot testing of the developed materials and eLearning modules. The organization of several multiplier events during the last year of the project ensures the developed training concept and eLearning modules will be disseminated among GP’s, health care workers and other stakeholders in Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia and even all over Europe.<< Results >>This project aims to obtain the following results:1/ Exchange of good practices on training concepts in the healthcare sector. Not only the partner organizations will learn from each other but all stakeholders involved will profit from the good practices thanks to the dissemination of the results.2/ Cross-sectoral exchange of good practices on dealing with sarcopenia. Expertise on nutrition, exercise, screening and elderly (home) care will come together in this project. This multifactorial approach will lead to better results because cross sectoral learning will be stimulated. A higher skill development or better knowledge in one sector will subsequently have an impact on the others.Expert knowledge will not only be exchanged between the involved partner organisations but, thanks to good dissemination, also between all stakeholders in the field.3/ Exchange of knowledge and expertise on sarcopenia. Several universities and VET institutions are working on finding solutions for the problems different sectors are facing. This project brings together knowledge and results from research with the experience of organisations working in the field of elderly care which makes the developed learning concept end eLearning module will exist of the latest findings.4/ Tailor made E-learning modules (including an evaluation tool) for different health care professionals. The development of the modules will be in close collaboration with the field which makes it high applicable for further use. After evaluation the different concepts will be made available to other health care organizations.5/ The training concept and eLearning module will result in better educated and skilled health care workers. They will have better knowledge and understanding of sarcopenia. The trained employees will have more essential skills on the labor market. If trainings are picked up by other organisations involved in VET, private or public institutions in health care, the amount of better educated and better skilled employees will rise substantially.

<< Background >>In order to recover from the current pandemic situation in a sustainable and inclusive way, in the EU countries, an unprecedented amount of money will be invested in the next years. Whether this large amount of money will bring the desired results will drastically depend on the capacity of designing and managing EU funded projects by people and organizations. Managing projects effectively thus become a critical variable in the achievement of the EU and national strategy targets and in sorting out the current pandemic crises. Nevertheless, an integrated framework of knowledge for managing EU funds is still missing and this topic finds very little space in the universities’ courses and programs. The lack of a common knowledge framework on EU funds management prevented so far, the development of standardised, common and recognized curricula in the higher education sector to support the increased demand for experts in EU funded projects. In universities, the knowledge areas associated with the EU funds management are poorly diffused and belongs to different academic fields. Project design methodologies are mainly linked to the study of social sciences whereas project management is associated with engineering or management studies. Few are the courses and programs for EU Project Managers which integrate both knowledge areas despite greater integration and synergy can have positive effects on the ability to achieve more effectively the project objectives. This proposal by pooling together universities and organizations with relevant expertise on the EU project design and project management aims at better aligning higher education sector curricula with opportunities and requests from the job market for the profile of EU project manager. The main objective is to create a common academic path based on a shared curriculum that integrates project design and management methodology to better manage EU funded projects. The integration work will be based on the recent “OPEN PM2” initiative of the European Commission for promoting a common and European wide project management methodology (PM2). The PM2 methodology is particularly fitting for the purpose of creating a standardised curriculum for university students. PM2 is in fact a European open-source methodology, light, lean and easy to understand and significantly flexible to be adapted to the specific rules and context of the EU funds and with the most common EU project design methodologies.<< Objectives >>The project will achieve the following objectives at different levels. At the economic and social level, the project will improve the capacity of organizations of managing EU funded projects and deliver effective results to better contribute to the achievement of the EU programs and strategies in terms of economic, social and environmental goals. At the higher educational level, the main results will be improving the alignment of the HE system to better answer to the increasing market demand of qualified EU project managers by enriching the academic offer with a common and innovative academic path. At the level of the project beneficiaries (university students), the main outcome will be increasing student’s job opportunities in a dynamic and attractive sector through the improvement of their skills and abilities in managing EU funded projects. The project will also contribute to other Erasmus+ programs outcomes as:-increasing synergies and links and improved transition between the higher education and VET sector as well as the job market, due to the involvement as associate partners of relevant organizations representing all the different professional sectors (private, public and no-profit);-increase the use of more strategic and integrated use of ICTs and open educational resources (OER) in the higher education system, due to the development of web-based tools for designing and managing projects;-increasing the capacity and professionalism to work at the EU/international level: improved management competencies and internationalisation strategies ready to integrate good practices and new methods including digital capabilities into daily activities.<< Implementation >>The following activities leading to the project results will be implemented during the project lifecycle:Output /Project Result 1-PR.1.
