Based on the needs assessment, research and publications from all partner countries, the proposal is focused on raising the level of political and media literacy of young people, learning about democracy, rule of law and values, and exploring how to become active citizens, having in mind not only elections but also a wider set of actions: campaigning, demonstrating, volunteering, engaging in political parties or NGOs. CritiDe as a project aims to raise capacities of participating organisations and their local partners, as well as youth workers; in the fields of critical thinking and activism of young people in democratic processes and development of media literacy skills. This will be achieved through development and delivery of educational trainings for youth workers and development of educational handbooks and workshops. As a cherry on the top, educational platform containing developed practical handbooks and online learning course on how to use and adapt materials to specific needs of local communities and work of youth workers/educators/professors; will be developed. Platform will further provide opportunities to contact local organisations as a focal points and resource centres.

Only a few organisations that are dealing with youth work were prepared for this kind of events in the society. Others don’t have knowledge, skills and experience needed to adapt educational work to online surrounding. Many youth workers are facing lack of the skills and knowledge needed to develop educational activity. When consortium was preparing previous application, in the research that we have done by contacting 245 youth work organisations from different networks in which 4 project partners are participating during August 2020, we have identified following issues:46% of youth workers have never developed their own educational activity, but have rather used already existing educational workshops,58% of youth workers think that they don’t have enough knowledge, skills and experience to develop educational workshops,28% of youth workers have been developing educational workshops, out of which 18% think they haven’t fully reached their initially planned learning objectives,62% of organisations don’t have needed knowledge and skills for adapting educational work with youth to online surrounding,From 32% of organisations who have done some kind of educational work with youth by using online surroundings, only 12% were able to develop educational online courses,Only 24% of organisations promote their work and target participants by using digital marketing,52% of organisations would be more than happy to use the online marketing tools in order to engage with higher number of youth to participate in their educational activities, but they state that they are not able to find practical advises and tools on how to use digital marketing in youth work,69% of organisations would use photography as a tool for promoting their activities, but they don’t know how to use it.When we developed and adjusted this project proposal, the consortium contacted the same 245 youth workers with the same questions in order to compare answers and analyse if things changed in the meanwhile. We received 216 answers and the most significant change we noticed is:- Double more (64%) have done some kind of educational work with youth by using online surroundings, but almost the same number of them were able to develop educational online courses. This is showing us that due to “new normal Covid-19 reality”, more and more organizations are forced to implement their regular youth work online, but they are still lacking the same skills, competences and knowledge to develop structured online courses and educational activities.Project intends to merge two different fields – digital online field and field of youth work and non-formal education. These two fields are not seen a lot of times working together in the field of non-formal education in European youth work. Partners have previously researched for needs of developing other projects in field of digital education and have found that there are also other related initiatives in Europe, one of them being “DIG-IT UP” education of youth workers aiming to provide digital learning tools to be used in daily work with young people (supported/hosted by several NAs so far, Italian being one of them). While DIG-IT UP focuses on face-to face education of youth workers, our project goes beyond it and will set quality and sustainable e-learning course on the topics that are covering also general topics of digital youth work (as DIG-IT UP), as well as more specific and complex topics related to digitalisation and gamification of youth work. Thus, our project is both innovative and complementary to the existing DIG-IT UP initiative and has potential to reach more beneficiaries thanks to the e-learning courses.<< Objectives >>Learning in Youth Work of 21st century, as an initiative developed by consortium covering areas of Germany, Balkan region and Scandinavia region, plans to achieve following objectives:- Bring positive and long-lasting effects on participating organisations and sector of youth work by enhancing knowledge management with new innovative resources for development of educational activities within youth work and training models/curricula in order to provide quality youth work educational activities that will address needs of each specific target group.- Support youth workers and educational trainers in acquiring and developing key competences as youth trainers (of other youth workers) in the field of developing and using e-learning materials and online courses in youth work; and marketing strategies and tools for higher involvement and promotion of activities for youth.- Engage into intensive dissemination and exploitation activities of existing and newly produced products and attract more youth organisations and youth workers on using the new innovative tools and approaches, and thus increase quality and quantity of educational youth work activities.Partnership consortium was carefully built in order to use already existing excellent practices and expertise of involved partners for development of new educational activities and materials for the sector of youth work and youth organisations. Each of the partners has specific expertise which will be combined with expertise of other consortium members in order to produce new approaches and methods for combining online and offline educational activities; thus enriching the sector of youth work with new easily transferable skills and knowledge of youth workers. Intensive dissemination of the developed materials and involvement of youth workers across Europe (both EU and non-EU countries) is ensured through partners already established influence in the local communities and regions. YP DE will involve youth workers across Germany and neighbouring countries in the online and offline dissemination of developed materials and approaches. YP SE will involve youth workers across the Scandinavia, and IRCD and Realization will involve youth workers from Balkan region in dissemination and further use (and hopefully further development) of the materials. This transnational cooperation aims to contribute to the higher preparedness and skills of youth workers to respond to the current needs of the society while being able to actively engage young people.<< Implementation >>Main project activities can be categorised into following sections:-Transnational meetings (2 meetings; 1 preparatory and 1 evaluation meeting)-Development of educational materials and online learning courses (3 manuals and 3 online learning courses)-Educational trainings for youth workers, based on the developed educational materials (3 trainings throughout the project implementation)-Follow-up activities and piloting of developed materials in 4 countries / local communities where partner organisations are based-4 national conferences (Sweden, Germany, Croatia and Serbia) in format of 1 day multiplier events; for sharing developed materials and results of activities.Flow of the implementation of project activities, summarised list:-Signing contract of YP DE with German NA -Signing bilateral agreements between applicant and other partners -Preparatory meeting. Youth workers struggle in finding contacts and moment of dialogue with youngsters because they use tools that are too far from the daily life of teenagers today, who spend most of the free time online.Gaming and social networks are some of the most common hobbies for youngsters and can be considered as a passive activity. Or, from other perspective, the youngster in that moment can be described as an active contributor to an activity or a common project in a game platform or as a moderator in a chat. The forms of establishing and maintaining communication have undergone fundamental changes. ICT-aided solutions are playing an ever-greater role, replacing interpersonal communication. Many times, youngsters discover most part of opportunities for their free time online and that’s why they don’t get usually in touch with youth centre and youth workers. Even if youngsters show a big confidence in using online tools they are still not educated in using these tools with full awareness. This project responds to the needs of our youngsters (mainstream and marginalised) and youth workers, as well as is in line with the latest findings on European level that there is a need for innovative youth work approach towards youngsters that spend a lot of their time online and do not visit (local) youth centres and youth clubs so much, any more. With this project, we aim at further empowering our youth workers in innovative usage of digitalisation and gamification methodology in regular work with marginalised youngsters in our communities, in order to increase attractiveness of the youth work activities and make them up-to-date for better impact on inclusion and engagement of both mainstream and marginalised youngsters.Project objectives:•Empower youth workers with knowledge and skills to implement digital tools in their everyday activities, with special focus on inclusion.•Empower youth workers and improve knowledge management of youth work organisations in theory and practice for building competences of youth workers in Gamification and adventure/escape room methodology in online and offline youth work for inclusion.•Encourage more youth workers for organising creative and innovative digital tools and youth work activities with gamification methodology based on affordable, low-cost and efficient adventure/escape rooms among mainstream and marginalised youngsters in our communities.•Attract more youngsters to our youth work activities by multiplying the innovative low-cost and efficient escape rooms against marginalisation in our communities, and thus increase inclusion among youngsters. We expect following direct participants / beneficiaries of our project: -8 staff / project managers and assistants; -12 teachers/trainers/researchers and technicians working on the intellectual outputs; -20 multipliers youth workers that will test the outputs with at least 80 youngsters (with fewer opportunities) on local level-60 participants of the multiplier events’ conferences, with at least 100 youngsters participating at low-cost escape rooms at the multipliers’ events Project activities:A1 – Project ManagementM1 – Kick-off meetingO1 – E-learning course “Digitalisation of youth work for inclusion”M2 – Second meetingO2 – Toolkit “Gamification and Escape room methodology in online and offline youth work for inclusion”M3 – Third meetingE1, E2, E3, E4 – Open conferences in SE, HR, IT, DEM4 – Evaluation meetingProject will directly impact organisational capacities. We expect the positive and long-lasting effects on partner organisations who will increase their capacity and competences for providing quality youth work activities for inclusion based on innovative approach with using digitalisation, gamification and escape rooms methodology in their online and offline youth work with beneficiaries. With our intellectual outputs, we will influence the change and improvement of existing inclusion youth work / NFE methodologies and programmes, at first among partner organisations of the project, and later among partner of ours and their wider network of collaborators.Marginalised youth in communities will benefit from the enlarged support tools and mechanisms in their communities from youth workers. There will be more online, as well as offline opportunities of support and direct mentorship of youngsters by now digitalised youth workers. As a long-term impact, on local and national level, we expect increase of soft skills, critical thinking, active citizenship and inclusion competences of mainstream and fewer opportunities youth. Thus, more youngsters will contribute to building society of inclusive community of active citizens.
