The research has shown that job market access and participation is a challenging process for highly educated migrants who have moved to Western countries. This challenge can be seen in higher education institutions, where there are very few employees (lecturers, professors) with migrant backgrounds. This challenge should be recognized at the university level, as there are more and more students with immigrant backgrounds who also need role models and working life success stories from immigrant lecturers and scholars. Immigrants' fast and effective job market participation experiences increased their positive feelings regarding belonging. The ILO project will organize opportunities for highly educated immigrants to use their talents and capacity by lecturing in partner universities and by organizing shared workshops or short courses for the students.<< Objectives >>The aims of the project at the higher education are to promote the intercultural understanding, teaching and learning and to create new models to integrate well-educated migrants to the teaching activities. It will also improve the self-esteem of immigrant students by giving them role-models of highly-educated migrants. The project will make visible and better employ the capacity of the highly-educated migrants. It will establish an European wide network organizing the migrant NGOs and higher education institutes to work together. During the project, workshops organized together by the higher education institutions and migrant NGOs will be piloted. The topics of the workshops or short courses are for example gender issues, equality and discrimination as well as social and cultural sustainability.<< Implementation >>ILO project will in different ways pilot, create models and make visible the varied possibilities of cooperation between migrant NGOs and higher education. An ""open resource bank"" of different well-educated migrants who can give lectures in different topics in different higher education institutions will be created. The needs of the partner universities will be mapped out and lectures in different subjects and faculties will be piloted. In addition, there will be created shared courses where the university lecturers and the migrant lecturers can share their expertise online, learn from each other and co-create new innovative learning outcomes that benefit both teachers and students, including participating NGOs. Also, in the ILO project online workshops with migrants and students will be created. As there are too few opportunities for migrant teachers and students as well as other migrants to meet other teachers, students and other members of society, such online workshops can be arranged to bridge the communication gap between different groups in society and in this way promote inclusion, equity, peace promotion and social and cultural sustainability. Workshops can include for example such topics as green care and sustainability, discrimination, racism prevention and equality promotion. One of the key points needed in higher education related integration policies is the concept of peer support and mentoring, hence this is one of the project outcomes. Here the main idea is to create and facilitate opportunities for immigrant teachers and other immigrant professionals and immigrant students to learn from each other, engage in dialogue and support the immigrant students in their studies and future work competences. Such peer support and mentoring can take place for example as online discussions, small group tutoring and long-term private mentoring.<< Results >>The project results as follows:• Open resource bank of online lecturers in such topics as interculturalism, discrimination and racism, gender issues etc.• Model for shared teaching between European Higher education institutions and NGOs• MOOCs and openly shared courses and lectures• Empowerment and wellbeing and inclusion promotion of migrant students• New knowledge for the lecturers in the participating institutions / work experience in teaching in Europe for the participating migrant teachers"
