Currently, both maritime and aviation sectors are lacking a systematic approach to collect and assess Human Factors information in normal and emergency conditions. There is also a lack of agreed methodology to assess human-related risks with the aim of influencing design and operation of aircraft and ships. Therefore, the research question being addressed in this project is “How to fully capture human elements and their interaction with the other system elements to enhance safety in maritime and aviation operations?” It is important to address Human Factors aspects in relation to risk-based design of system and operations in a measurable manner by taking the variation in human behaviour over time and the non-flexibility of machines into consideration. The main aim of SAFEMODE project is to develop a novel HUman Risk Informed Design (HURID) framework in order to identify, collect and assess Human Factors data to inform risk-based design of systems and operation. These aims have not been achieved previously at a desirable level due to the unavailability of systematically collected data and lack of cooperation between different transport modes. The focus will be to reduce risks for safety critical situations, (e.g. mid-air collisions, grounding, evacuation, runway excursions etc.) through the enhancement of human performance. This will be achieved through investigation of past accidents, incidents, near-misses, reports, data from everyday operations, including previously unknown uncertainties such as increasing levels of automation and increased number of drones in transportation. This information will be incorporated the HURID framework and tools and into SHIELD, the open data repository and the living database, that will be maintained and continuously updated.

QuanTEEM proposes an Erasmus Mundus master’s joint programme in the booming field of quantum technology, with the ambition of educating a new generation of industrial experts, engineers, and researchers, as quantum innovators. The consortium of QuanTEEM is composed of four highly experienced partners in the field of quantum technology both in research and educational aspects: UBFC, TUK, AU and MIPT. It has been designed to integrate their complementary strengths supplemented by numerous industrial associated partners. QuanTEEM will develop strategies based on internationalisation (including interculturality), interdisciplinarity, intersectorality and innovation, for a unique joint programme in Europe. The programme is based on the established quantum pillars: quantum communication, quantum simulations, quantum sensing, quantum computers and computation, and quantum information sciences, towards innovation. It addresses aspects and applications ranging from basic research in physics and beyond to major grand challenges as energy, materials, health, security and environment, to which quantum technologies has started to apply. QuanTEEM will fill the skill shortage gap via the combination of strong research, excellent teaching, novel didactics concepts, and intersectorality via a strong industrial involvement. We will train high-level students with multifaceted qualification, who will have the ability (i) to be recruited in private companies active in the field of quantum technologies, (ii) to embark on a top-class PhD programme in laboratories or private companies, or (iii) to create a start-up. The consortium agreed on joint organisational and educational elements, such as core and elective courses, complemented by two seasonal schools, and master thesis internships. QuanTEEM offers numerous possibilities of mobility combined with specializations: photonics, quantum materials, many-body quantum physics, integrated quantum optics and platforms for quantum technologies.

"MODEST project aims at modernization of doctoral education in Science in Partner Countries. Wider project objective is ""To enhance cooperation capacities of Higher educational institutions of Partner Countries in the field of Doctoral Studies within European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and European Research Area (ERA)"" and specific objectives are:- Improve quality and employability of doctoral graduates of PC HEI's by modernizing doctoral education towards interdisiplinarity, internationalisation, enhancing mobility, using new teaching methodologies in line with Salzburg Principles, BFGU recommendations- Facilitate successful adherence with Bologna reforms and its instruments by organization of special training sessions for academic and administrative staff of HEI's in PCs- Improve up-skills of research and educational staff by retraining them on new teaching methods and create modern learning and research environment based on student centred approach, competence based program development- Improve structure and internal capacities of services of doctoral education and reseach by setting up Doctoral Training Centers in PC HEI’s; ensure their sustainability and cooperation with EU partners by establishing a professional network using modern ICT tools. To meet these objectives, the project will make use of the analysis of best EU practices and of the needs of PC to develop training materials and organize intensive retraining of HEI’s staff. Structure and content of DTCs will be worked out, including set of regulatory documents, instructions for DTC creation, programs and materials for DTCs and interdisciplinary Summer schools for doctoral students. To ensure sustainability, a web-platform and Virtual Network environment will be developed using participatory approaches and ICT methodologies. Synergy with other European initiatives will be sought via participation of consortium members in EU networks and organizations (Coimbra Group, EURASHE, etc)."
