In order to contribute to and support the harmonisation process within the South East Asia region through building of a framework of comparable, compatible and transparent degree programmes, project aims to apply the Tuning methodology in the South East Asia universities in three subject areas – Civil Engineering, Medicine and Teacher Education, develop Tuning Meta-Profiles in three subject areas; develop, implement, monitor and improve degree programmes, and promote regional and international cooperation between the South East Asia and EU universities. The project main results are ensured by using a multi-stakeholder bottom-up approach while taking European and world Tuning experiences in collaboration with key stakeholders at national, regional and international levels. They include: a well-established group of trained academics and managers (65 academic staff and 40 management staff); Reference Points for the Design and Delivery of Degree Programmes in Civil Engineering, Medicine and Teacher Education; 4 BA Degree Programme Profiles and 1 Master’s Degree Profile; 2 Regional Dissemination Seminars; 2 International Dissemination Conferences; 2 High Level International Policy Forums; 1 Public interactive website. The outcomes of the project are of relevance for all higher education institutions in South East Asia.

BHD.,TAMK,UP OpenU,UTFunder: European Commission Project Code: 609657-EPP-1-2019-1-FI-EPPKA2-CBHE-JPFunder Contribution: 993,207 EURThe aim of the project is to promote equity and access to higher education in Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines through the use of inclusive instructional design (ID) and learning analytics (LA) in online and blended learning, especially in the context of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). The objectives are to build capacity in inclusive ID and LA, improve students’ learning engagement, active learning and study skills with the help of ID and LA based interventions, improve pedagogical and technical accessibility of digital learning materials, and use LA for more effective, personalised support for distance learners. In all three Partner countries, improving access to quality higher education is a priority. ODL is seen as a viable way of doing this, as it gives access to students with diverse backgrounds, for instance students in remote areas, mature age students and working students. However, access is only the starting point: the students also need to be able to successfully complete their studies. To ensure better equity and student retention, issues such as pedagogical and technical inclusion, accessible digital materials, and personalised support must be considered. In the project, inclusive instructional design methods and learning analytics solutions are utilised to address these issues.Pilot interventions addressing specific local needs related to the project scope are developed at each Partner HEI. This is supported by authentic capacity building activities and ongoing online support throughout the design, development, implementation and evaluation of the pilots. The outcomes of the project will be tried and tested recommendations and guidelines for using inclusive ID and LA for promoting equity and access to higher education. The results will be disseminated both regionally and more widely in the ASEAN region through multiple channels, including an international conference and a Handbook which will be published online with a Creative Commons license.

Focusing on different aspects of micro-credentialing, for instance course content co-creation, educational technology, transparent quality assurance, technologies for issuance and verification of digital micro-credentials, the project builds a comprehensive set of competences and technical capacities in Southeast Asian Universities. Leveraging on the partner networks, as well as on the links to the national educational authorities and regional initiatives, MICROCASA has an ambition to have a systemic impact on the ASEAN region as a whole. The project plan builds around the following groups of activities:•Regional Micro-credentials Study and Roundtables, which will allow gathering factual data and experts opinions about the barriers and enablers for introducing micro-credentials into the regional HEIs, as well as to benchmark the regional approaches to the ones in the EU;•Micro-credentials capacity building Programme covering all abovementioned aspects of micro-credentialing;•Pilot development, delivery and evaluation of the set of Digital Competences courses granting micro-credentials;•Targeted awareness raising and dissemination activities spreading the excellence beyond the project consortium. On the European side, the project consortium includes 3 European Universities with complementary competences, Italian NARIC Agency and the quality assurance expert company. The representative group of 6 Southeast Asian University includes central agenda-setting national Universities, as well as Universities with regional development missions.

In contrast to a traditional Humbolt University model, Universities across the globe become knowledge service providers to the economy and society at large. In this context, the latest explosion of Massive Open Online educational services/Courses (MOOCs, 2012 was declared as a Year of MOOCs, NYT) is confirming the general trend and opens new avenues for linking Universities and their external customers via powerful ICT means. When Europe is one of the global leaders in MOOC technologies, this innovation is still to come to Southeast Asia and the mission of the COMPETEN-SEA project is to enable the transfer of European experiences to the local partner Universities. The overall project aim is to make a significant contribution towards strengthening relations between higher education systems in Southeast Asia and wider economic and social environment by building organizational, pedagogical and technical capacities in local Universities to design, develop, market and deliver MOOCs for various economic and social problems. The project will implement the following activities:- Regional MOOC SWOT analysis and feasibility study to identify best strategies for educational outreach using MOOCs- Intensive MOOC Capacity Building programme aimed at building local capacities to develop MOOCs addressing local educational needs and deliver them to target users- Development and evaluation of the system of MOOCs addressing urgent socio-economic development needs - Dissemination and awareness raising campaign addressing academic communities in the region, as well as other key stakeholders: policy makers, potential users of MOOCs (e.g. public bodies, NGOs, businesses, etc.), general public. Importantly, the project will undertake efforts to integrate the regional MOOC specialists with the European MOOC movement.

The project specifically targets engineering students, aiming to provide them with the necessary management and linguistic skills to become attractive to both local and international employers. The project will support two major academic activities, in order to better adapt the current curriculum to the local labour market, thus promoting regional integration. The 1st activity includes the development and implementation of a multidisciplinary curriculum by international academic teams in order to enrich teaching and learning in the classroom and at home. This new curriculum will be supported by innovative teaching materials and modern teaching technologies such as online tools, MOOC, SPOC and e-learning. The 2nd activity focuses on improving regional cooperation to promote open-minded, critical, and innovative thinking in international teams. This will result in turn in the development of curriculum that encapsulates both global and regional aspects. Master students will participate in these joint initiatives that will be enhanced by ICT-based tools, to acquire the skills needed to be effective global citizens. In terms of multi-skills and innovative digital tools, teacher training is also one of GECKO’s central components and will be implemented through a theoretical and practical approach (E-learning session, exchange of experience, staff weeks, etc.). The project therefore facilitates the transfer, of knowledge and understanding of the multi-skills, leading in turn to a better employability for engineering students in Asia. This knowledge can be applied and developed, from the end of the project onwards, on all of the courses at the partner universities, and in the long term throughout ASEAN universities.
