The partners, public institutions with responsibilities in the field of law enforcement, identified the need to develop common non-formal training programs which would enable a better cooperation at EU level, bring added value in carrying out daily responsibilities, open up opportunities for innovative approaches that produce long-lasting effects leading to improvement of professional environment within the organization, introduce new methods of non-formal training in the workplace. The overall objective was to develop a strategic partnership with similar institutions and institutions specialized in the field of education, aiming to improve the quality of continuous training, to bring forth institutional modernization and furthermore to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the duties performed daily. The relevance of the project to the objectives set consists in significant increase of training capacity to improve the quality level of skills and competences of our employees by promoting lifelong learning. The project activities were 1. Project management; 2. Policy learning and collection of good practices; 3. Training needs analysis; 4. Curriculum development, competencies profiles, on-line platform for non-formal training; 5. Train the trainers program; 6. Piloting the non-formal methods, tutoring, mentoring and job rotation; 7. Setting up monitoring and evaluation instruments for non-formal training process; 8. Strategic documents development. Regular meetings of the project management teams were organised in order to ensure the effective coordination of activities, to compile monitoring reports and observe the conditions of eligibility. As an approach of the management process, the activity was based on the five functions of management: planning, organization, coordination, training, and control. Specific deliverables were technical and financial reports. The implementation teams provided the necessary data needed to draft and submit periodic reports. The final assessment provides information regarding the achievement of objectives, the impact of the project on the target group, the prospects for further development in light of the acquired experience, satisfaction level of target groups, compliance with the proposed financial targets. Through the activities, the project does not only bring fundamental changes to the curriculum design, but also creates an authentic framework or practical implementation of this concept, through instruments able to sustain a convergence in the design and development of trans-disciplinary competences. The elaboration of innovative approaches will lead to enhance professional career developments. Attracting young and new employees in tutoring programs will foster their professional development. Attracting experienced professionals in mentoring programs will preserve their knowledge and will capitalize on it in the interest of the institution. The participation of specialists in policy and strategic planning in project activities contributed to the dissemination of institutional commitment for mentoring, tutoring and job rotation. At the level of target group the impact is the increased interest of all colleagues to take part in similar training activities, increased intercultural awareness, better cooperation among colleagues in EU and international missions. The practical implementation of the project outcomes will produce a lasting impact onto the consolidation of a sustainable training program in this field, which seeks to address a broad range of barriers that may inhibit individuals from seeking and maintaining interest in continuous professional improvement. It will also contribute to the preservation of the knowledge in institutions when personnel with huge expertise retire. The participation in non-formal training programs will lead to increased interest in and openness to EU best practices, reflected better in the improvement of their own training methods and own work, application of new teaching and learning methods, introduction of new learning contents and focus on the European dimension in training, as well as better capability of dealing with a diverse or multicultural groups, improved quality of foreign language used during common missions at EU level. The strategic partners have developed a stronger European dimension of their day to day life in the institutions, have established partnerships and cooperation relations among them and have introduced new management strategies, ideas and practices.

This project uses the notion of the 'surveillant assemblage' proposed by Haggerty & Ericson (2000) and inspired by Deleuze & Guattari (1988) as the starting point to provide a better understanding of how surveillance technologies are governed Surveillance practices threaten the privacy of citizens and visitors of public gatherings, but they also have a social impact and economic cost. The first overarching purpose of the GATHERINGS project consists of three ambitions: - to improve the efficacy of surveillance in order to render public gatherings safer - to increase the fairness and transparency of surveillance by making it more privacy-friendly, - to boost feasibility of surveillance for involved stakeholder by making it more cost-effective, both economically and socially. The second overarching purpose is to identify gaps in terms of awareness among professionals and citizens, and bringing about international harmonisation of good practices and common standards with regard to the privacy-friendly, socially sensitive, cost-effective surveillance of safer public gatherings. In order to respond to the call priorities, the GATHERINGS project will: - develop common standards, to maximise privacy and data protection in surveillance practices - develop an accessible matrix, to be used by surveillance professionals, local administrations and event organisers, to weigh security against privacy, economic cost and social impact - set up an international network of surveillance professionals, administrations, experts, policy makers and citizens - develop an awareness-raising programme for citizens and civil society - develop an awareness-raising programme for surveillance professionals - formulate policy recommendations - search for synergies with other ongoing security research projects

Most cases involve complex biological mixtures containing cells from the victim and perpetrator(s). Current forensic methods struggle to isolate individual DNA profiles, leaving many cases unresolved and perpetrators unprosecuted. Addressing these limitations is critical to improving evidence interpretation, ensuring justice for victims, and reducing societal impacts. CapCell aims to deliver a new approach to improve forensics and lawful evidence collection with innovative microfluidics and single-cell genomics technologies to overcome the limitations of mixed DNA evidence. Specifically, we will develop the CapCell toolkit comprised of ten easily integrated modules that capture, select, isolate, sequence and interpret individual cells of interest. We will co-create novel strategies and best practices with end-users and industry to improve evidence collection from postcoital swabs and contact traces. Recovered intact cells from male contributors will then be selected and isolated using innovative mobile microfluidic devices. By employing novel concepts, we will advance follow-up DNA sequencing assays and analysis tools to target diverse forensic biomarkers with single-cell resolution. We will align interpretation frameworks to suit single-cell DNA analysis and leverage machine learning to automate the forensic process. Eventually, CapCell will achieve its goal by validating and implementing the new toolkit (TRL5-7) in the relevant end-user environment, with the support of several forensic science institutes and police forces. To reach its ambitious objectives, CapCell brings together an experienced intersectoral consortium of 13 partners from 8 European countries, with complementary expertise in forensic genomics, biosensor technology, bioinformatics, statistics and technology prototyping. Ultimately, CapCell will contribute to a safer and healthier society across Europe.

Current challenges in Conflict Prevention and Peace Building (CPPB) trainings are that many programmes on offer are both too general/narrow, they are not applicable enough, weak on concrete skills enlargement and moreover training alone is not sufficient. Overcoming these challenges requires novel CPPB training curricula and linked activities. PeaceTraining.eu aims to analyse these issues with strong involvement of all relevant stakeholders to take into account current practices and provide new training methods for CPPB personnel. In order to meet these challenges and to investigate this complex field of research a multidimensional modeling approach is used. The resulting, proprietary PeaceTraining.eu Cube Model describes curricula structures including stakeholders, new methods, course structures, techniques as well as further aspects, e-approaches, tools and entities. The PeaceTraining.eu Web Platform (www.peacetraining.eu) features a knowledge base, stakeholder maps, expert navigators, infographics, best practice libraries, and digital guidebooks to strengthen the information transfer among all project developments and future implementations. Additional Training Curricula Setup Utilities and Search Tools four training centres and trainers are provided through the project. Thus, PeaceTraining.eu increases awareness on the topic and also attracts secondary target groups including training course provider, educational institutions and trainers because of its sustainable strategy with long-term mobilisation and engagement activities including an International PeaceTraining.eu Symposium. On a European scale, PeaceTraining.eu will deliver new CPPB training methods and curricula and serve as a one-stop resource to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
