As a broad-based researcher with extensive experience in the relationship between society and the academy, I am highly motivated to contribute to this sandpit. My contribution focuses on the continuation of the slavery past in religious social organizations, focusing on the theme of repair and restoration of relationships. In addition, I can contribute experience with collaborative research methods with input from community art and literature.

The Dutch universities of religion and philosophy are ready for the next phase within the new Recognizing & Rewarding framework: incorporating Open Science (OS) into recruitment and development policies. The aim of this project is to provide a policy recommendation that allows for tailored implementation within the individual institutions. The project entails an assessment of the current status within these institutions and identification of best practices. Additionally, the project involves the establishment of an NLU OS community and platform to raise awareness about Open Science and to ensure the sustainable integration of the new recruitment and development policies.

Reflective equilibrium and practical wisdom Although reflective equilibrium is the most dominant method of tackling moral issues, it is not critical enough. This is because it allows for the possibility of coherent garbage as outcome of ethical reflection. This project’s original aim is to explore the possibility of improving reflective equilibrium by supplementing it with an account of the virtue of practical wisdom.

In this research project we study the role of the Reformed Church in the Dutch colonial past. We look at the theological and exegetical arguments put forward by church and academic theologians to defend or criticise slavery and at the concrete financial, social and administrative role of the church in slavery and the slave trade (missionary, pastoral, the church as slave owner, investor, gatekeeper). Multiple perspectives are included (enslaved people, former slaves, indigenous people, mixed groups and white colonizers) and attention is paid to the legacy of slavery in todays churches and society.
