How can climate policy lead to behavioural change? ChangeAble develops new knowledge aimed at accelerating behavioural change, provides insight into which individual, social and contextual factors stimulate sustainable behaviour, and how and when policy can effectively leverage them. ChangeAble also provides insight into how tipping points can be reached by improved policy timing for more widespread and faster sustainable behavioural change. ChangeAble identifies, develops and tests interventions to promote changes in social conventions in five policy areas. In this way, ChangeAble contributes to more effective, efficient, acceptable and just climate policy by making better use of behavioural knowledge in policy.

EmPowerED aims to deliver a theoretically informed and empirically validated scalable and integrated systems co-creation approach for carbon-neutral heating that can be tailored to the specific local PED context. It addresses key knowledge gaps in citizen engagement, governance and technology. Our consortium of 11 knowledge institutes and 38 societal partners includes diverse citizen groups, civil society organizations, municipalities, grid operators, housing associations and technology & service providers, united in a community of practice. EmPowerED’s novel systems-design toolbox to co-create local heat solutions for PEDs will be tested in real-life use cases and experiments to ensure usability and capacity building.

The organization of the energy sector needs to change in order to match the variability of solar and wind energy with energy demand and to ensure enough energy is always available. A broad consortium of Dutch knowledge institutes addresses the questions of how the Dutch energy market should be organized to support the energy transition and to function after the energy transition. The interdisciplinary team develops solutions together with a large group of stakeholders from, a.o., government, industry, consumers, network companies, energy cooperatives. The balance between market and government, citizens and energy system and between local and global is redesigned.

HyPRO significantly reduces cost for green hydrogen or hydrogen made from waste stream through innovation. Unique is that HyPRO brings together the entire value chain, from advanced materials and components, developers of electrolysers, plasma reactors and complete systems. The value chain is completed with companies that will produce the hydrogen. This impressive consortium of 70 partners also includes almost 20 universities, colleges and research institutes. Advanced materials, components and systems are developed, with an emphasis on collaboration across the value chain. A unique opportunity for Dutch companies to gain a position on the global market for sustainable technology.

WP7 aims to comprehensively examine socio-economic factors influencing hydrogens role in a sustainable energy system. Well assess how economic, legal, policy, and sociocultural aspects may hinder or facilitate hydrogen implementation, identifying strategies to overcome barriers and enhance scalability. Additionally, well evaluate environmental impacts, proposing measures to mitigate negatives. These insights will elucidate hydrogens potential in future energy and material systems. Moreover, we commit to broad communication and dissemination, sharing findings with GroenvermogenNLs WPs, industry, governments, NGOs, and the public, ensuring widespread understanding and application of our research.
