Ocular diseases have a huge impact on patients lives and economical burden on societies. Unfortunately, most eye diseases do not have effective drug treatments. Poor drug delivery to the eye is a major bottleneck in ocular drug development. In this project, we aim to generate a technology platform for targeted ocular delivery of drugs in nanosized particles. The technology is based on the use of targeting compounds on the surfaces of drug-containing nanoparticles. This will provide homing of the drug to the target site, thereby improving drug efficacy and safety. Such technology will facilitate the development of effective and safe ocular drugs for the unmet medical needs in ophthalmology.
