More than ever, we need to concentrate on the issue of environmental awareness and we should use all resources in our hands. The Play for Sustainable Environment project aims to develop innovative youth work methods to raise awareness on the importance of environmental sustainability through sport-based non-formal education. Our initiative targets youth leaders, youth workers, NGO staff , educators and young people in order to develop their understanding, skills and competences to link sport-based education to environmental sustainability. The innovative approach of the project allows youth organizations from Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin-America to exchange good practices, knowledge and methodology in the field of sport-based non-formal education, thus also strengthening capacities for increased levels of global action. Innovative practices to promote environmental awareness through outdoor activities and education through sport based games will be developed, tested and disseminated through the 18 months duration of the project. Main objectives:• Create a transnational platform for sharing, exchanging and transferring knowledge, information and good practices in relation to sport-based non-formal education and youth-led environmental sustainability; • Develop and test innovative sport-based, non-formal educational methods to raise awareness on environmental challenges;• Up-skill youth leaders, educators, youth workers, NGO staff to increase knowledge, skills and competences in order to promote environmental awareness through outdoor activities; • Provide non-formal learning and mobility opportunities for European, African, Latin-American and Asian young people (including those with fewer opportunities) to develop their skills and competences in relation to environmental sustainability; • Build capacity of participating youth organizations and promote their internationalization strategies. The objectives of the project will be reached by implementing the following interrelated and interconnected activities: Kick-Off Meeting, Transnational Mapping Activity, Training Course, Job Shadowing, Youth Exchange, Local Dissemination and Closing Seminar. From these activities tangible outcomes will be generated such as: educational manual, good practice database, video-interviews and articles. These outcomes, together with the website and social media channel, will be useful for dissemination activities and for enhancing the sustainability of the project and to reaching out to potential target groups.

The fact that plastic pollution has detrimental health, social and economic effects compels us to think innovatively about how to address it. United Nation (2018) highlighted that -with today’s youth population (15-24 years) at 1.2 billion and further growth anticipated for the near future, investments in youth must be channelled to enable them to adopt sustainable methods for environmental protection. UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has said 'In 1950, the world’s population of 2.5 billion produced 1.5 million tons of plastic; in 2016, a global population of more than 7 billion people produced over 300 million tons of plastic – with severe consequences for the environment. Plastic pollution is destroying our lives, wildlife and our ecosystem. United Nations estimated that world’s population will reach 10 billion by 2050 relatively, it is expected the plastic production will triple. Recently, young people started a movement for the protection of the environment and their future. They need support from governments, NGOs and from all stakeholders. We all need to work together to equip youth and communities to reduce plastic pollution. AIMs -Imparting awareness and a sense of environmental stewardship among the youth of today and future generations (by engage, support and empower youth to take sustainable environmental actions and promote them) through Strategic Partnership and share good practices-to build/increase the capacity of NGOs to take action regarding reducing plastic waste in the partner countries by encouraging local communities to recycle and re-use. -to equip youth workers with new sustainable environmental skills in order to empower more young peopleOBJECTIVESOrganising activities to address the education needs of young people in order to empower & encourage them to recycle, reuse plastic; To sharing good practices, learning outcomes and non-formal learning methodologies in the field of youth. To create sense of ownership & awareness of the urgent environmental issues among youth by organising, seminars, workshops, polls and creating online platforms to reach wider audiences which will also provide guidance on how to reduce/stop single plastic use and promote recycling;Organise regular upcycling activities within the local communities to show how they can reuse plastic materials for various different purposes. Involving young people with interactive and fun activities that will not only improve the environment they live in but also increase their analytical, decision-making, social by taking part in community activities;Provide tools to participants to uncover their true potentials, and to inspire them to become multipliers in their communities; To foster cooperation and exchange knowledge, experiences with partner organisations by promoting recycling, upcycling to reduce plastic going to the oceans and the landfill.Establish strong connections between the organizations and youth workers and between the youth workers;Train NGOs/youth workers with new sustainable development skills to disseminate results to create and establish related projects for other young people.Promote EU values, social inclusion, diversity, intercultural dialogue, tolerance and respect to each other to the nature among young people by organising intercultural activities.Learn and share expertise of local/national initiatives related to waste management, recycling facilities, environmental friendly plastic reduction and alternative solutions by Environmental protection seminar and workshops.
