The European Flow is a school project among five European cities built on rivers (the Loire, the Rhine, the Oder, the Morava and the Danube) which connect us as well as distinguish us form each other standing for our national identities. The project arose from the high awareness of the European cultural heritage connected to rivers and the necessity of their environmental protection to preserve cultural and biological diversity. This secondary school project was an interdisciplinary project in which significant aspects of our rivers were examined by students (aged between 15 and 18): to learn about European heritage, folklore, literary tradition, music and fine arts inspired by the motif of rivers, to understand the important role of rivers in the development of their cities geographically, historically and economically and to raise awareness of the ecological changes of rivers due to human activities and climate change, to promote sustainability and to develop a responsible and conscious European citizenship within students. A musical performance of a transnational choir (The Flow Concert) as well as exhibitions of students' results from research and creative activities (films, photography, paintings, poetry) were disseminated to students, teachers and to the public. Besides the project's target group of students in the upper grades (10-12) , who worked peer to peer, in groups at the home schools as well as internationally, further pupils of the regional middle and elementary schools and children at kindergarten drew benefits from the project by its peer learning methodology. For the participating teachers workshops and training in active learning methods were offered and an international cooperation in team teaching took place at partner meetings, too. Each of the participating schools contributed to the project differently: Bischöfliches Willigis Gymnasium from Mainz, Germany took over the responsibility of coordination of the project and offered expertise of applied peer learning and teaching methods. By the organization of a transnational meeting on literature and taking the participants on hiking and ship tours it contributed to the spread of regional legends, poetry and music. It promoted the awareness of European languages as well as creativity in writing European poetry. Zespol Szkol Salezjańskich from Wroclaw, Poland contributed to the ecological profile of the project by organizing field excursion to learn about biodiversity and water quality of rivers. Saint-Martin du Val d’Erdre from France supported the project within the field of economy by showing trade and harbour in Nantes and with a visit a local ship building company. It added to the profile of the project with a creative phase of project logo design and competition promoting artistic works. Gymnazium Jana Opletala from Litovel, Czech Republic promoted creativity by a public competition and exhibition in photography. too. By its expertise in music a transnational vocal performance of the project participants could be realized and showed within a Erasmus concert. Finally, the Cisztercita Nagy Lajos Gimnázium from Pécs, Hungary set up and took care of the project website (www.european -flow.eu) and mobilized the sensitivity for sustainability within the last digital phase of the project by doing research and consideration of traditional methods that can be revived to ensure biodiversity or sustainability in connections with water and our rivers. The results and method practice gained from this project affected staff and students of the participating schools and are accessible to the community and general public on the project and school websites in the long run. Lesson plans and peer learning interactive methods used and carried out within the project time are shared on the result platform of the Erasmus + projects as a toolkit for other teachers or educators. Further student language exchange programs between participating schools arose from this project between the French and German schools in the long term and a new Erasmus project followed for the future cooperation among the participating schools. Last but not least, all participating students of this project have been suited with experience of communication, presentation, social and language skills for their future international work career and to participate and identify themselves as citizens of Europe with a new awareness and responsibility felt for the European heritage and environment.

Our project ART & TALES will be created by six European Countries with very old history in art, tales and mythology in Europe (for instance Spain with Altamira, Italy with Etrusce and Roman culture, very old caves in Bulgaria, sculptures from stone age in Austria - venus from Willendorf ) and a lot of European cultural heritage, tales and mythology (Hungary, Romania,). Also in the project are 2 schools with focus in art (Romania and Italy) and schools with focus in history, writing and old languges (Greek and Latin). The project focuses on the beginning of European history and mythology in art, mythology and tales and acquires skills in creating art and writing tales - comparable to a huge picture book. Traditional and modern techniques in art production (like cave paintings with coal from stone age as well as street art from Banksy or Michael Köhlmaier with modern tales as well as poetry slam and lyrics performances) will be practised to discover the possibilities of creating art and writing tales in progress. To our opinion comes the value and the understanding of the beginnings of European cultural heritage also from a creative engagement and application in art and writing. The end product is a huge panoramic picture in Austria (22 meters long, 2 meters high) with all the pictures and stories artistically processed (also during long term exchanges - artists in residence) and a booklet with all our writings, our tales, our new mythology. To develop together basic skills in art history, mythology, art expression, writing tales, art design will be a challenge and a opportunity, to practise alternativ and new methods in art expression, art development and teamworking. The outside of the panoramic picture is in cooperation with partner schools in Africa, Asia and Oceania a summery and comperision about Art&Tales in other parts of the world. The art association ""Art & Development"" will be the coordinator for the external associated partners (Ghana, Bosnia & Herzegowina, France, Oceania, Armenia). The project aims that students are familiar with the European history and mythology in art and acquire skills in creating art and writing tales. The value of European cultural heritage comes from the creative engagement and application in art and writing. We will produce art pictures and writings on the subjects of European cultural heritage, history of art, European tales, European mythology. We will analyse art and tales. We make a writing competition. We make an initiation to Art history and mythology. We present a typology of tales and mythology. A workshop about art, a workshop about literature, tales, mythology. We will study some of the art pictures about mythology. We will organize workshops for writing tales. We try to create new tales. We try to perform our new mythology. The pupils prepare the final presentation for all workshops, art pictures (huge panoramic picture) and tales (booklet) in Austria."

In there we concentrated on the “positive aspects” of a regional cultural variety and on the economical unity open to inside outside influences. Nevertheless for centuries there was a kind of lingua franca and a common currency which both combined had been providing a high degree of mobility. There were neighbouring networks stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Baltic Sea. Since and throughout the Greek Antique we find statements against war and mention of living in “harmony with the neighbours and the nature”. These ideas of a perpetual peace were linked up with Kant and modern pacifism of the late 19th century. The modern destructive wars do not fit the specific context of these European intellectual traditions. In view of findings that emerged during this project a new idea originated for a new project on the topic “war and peace”. The 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War was a convincing reason to choose the “Great War” for our research. The goals of our project:-Research on the First World War from a regional perspective;-Cooperation with local and regional institutions, museums, archives, associations and scientific organisations;-Introducing scientific methods to the students getting practical and theoretical knowledge by their own research on the local and regional level concerning the First World War; -Raising awareness and understanding of our special responsibility for security and peace in Europe;-Initiation of further activities beyond the project.Number and profile of the participating institutions:-Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium (Planegg, Germamy);-1 EPAL MOUDROU (Lemnos, Greece);-Ciszterci Rend Nagy Lajos Gimnázium (Pécs, Hungary);-Bayramic Mustafa Gulsen Cinaroglu Anadolu Lisesi (Bayramic, Turkey);-LP St Joseph Tahiti (French-Polynesia); -ASS Gestion Collège Lycée Catholique (Réunion, France) ; -Rigas pilsetas Plavnieku gimnazija (Riga, Latvia). These are mainly secondary schools, Greece and French-Polynesia are vocational training schools. All school were dealing with the subject “The First World War” before starting our project. Via eTwinning we found each other looking for a partner on this project. Description of the main activities:-Organisation and implementation of all Transnational and Learning, Teaching and Training Activities according to the application;-Textual elaboration of the key content in the three phases of the project: pre-war period, 1914-1918, post-war era;-Individual occupation of each partner school with the given topic of the project;-Preparing collections of material, reports, short movies, reports and handouts for the theme-orientated meetings;-Cooperation with the local authorities relating the maintenance of the regional commemorative culture in regard to the First World War (exhibitions, major public events, memorials etc.);-Efficient PR activities (involving the media, neighbour schools, local communities, associations and public authorities).Outputs and impacts achieved:-Publications, lectures and reports on the results of searches in public and private archives and museums -Interviews with families, still in relationship to the First World War (by wounded or killed family members);-Music, songs, drama scripts, related to the First World War-Public events in reference to the regional commemoration of the First World War (together with the French President Hollande in Tahiti, with representatives from the government in Réunion, with members of the Canadian and Australian Embassies in Lemnos amongst others;-Special activities (for example “Earth form Verdun”, involving a “guest-partner-school” from Perth/Australia to our project);-Construction of memorials associated with the regional victims of the First World War in St. Joseph and St. Pierre (La Réunion), in Papeete (Tahiti) and in Moudros (Greece);-An intensive involvement with the own regional history in the context of the First World War;-Awareness of our common European history and responsibility;-Clarifying the global character of the First World War by our partners from the overseas territories of the EU.Long-term benefits:-Continuation of the project with regard to content (annual summer school by yearly turns in Lemnos and Canakkale/Bayramic) ;-Follow-up meeting october 2018 in Lemnos, anniversary of the armistice of Mudros between the Allies and the Ottoman Empire);-Educational Seminars promoting the European ideal in all partner regions.
