Abstract

La colección Grupo de Estudios Relación Parásito Hospedero: Modelo Hemoparásitos Aviares (GERPH) de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, fue fundada por la profesora Nubia Matta en 1998. Esta colección preserva micropreparados sanguíneos de fauna silvestre y sus parásitos, muestras de tejido sanguíneo u órganos para análisis moleculares e histopatológicos y algunos ejemplares de posibles vectores. La colección cuenta con cerca de 19.000 micropreparados que representan más de 6.200 especímenes de aproximadamente 340 especies vertebradas. El grupo de hospederos más representativo en la colección son las aves, pero también se cuenta con ejemplares de anfibios, reptiles y mamíferos. El estudio de estos ejemplares permite extraer información sobre relaciones parásito-hospedero, diversidad morfológica y genética de parásitos y algunos parámetros hematológicos de fauna silvestre.
