Mozambique Gastropod and Bivalve shells Collection MHNM

Abstract

This dataset comprises the information on the Gastropod and Bivalve dry collection (DBDC) of the Natural History Museum of Maputo (NHMM), Mozambique. This collection consit of historical specimens from 1934 and to 2019 specimens. The DBDC holds 497 records (1551 specimens) of which 396 identified species (48 Bivalve and 347 Gastropoda and 1 Scaphopoda) and 24 not identified to the species level (Gastropodes) from Mozambique coast. The published information on Mozambican Bivalves and Gastropods is still very limited, which increases the value of this collection. With elaboration of this database, a compressive review of taxonomy of the GBDC was made, and systematic information updated. The GBDC is carefully preserved and all the associated data is all digitalized. All records have been geo-referenced through the software GeoLocate and the dataset has been checked for errors and incongruences through OpenRefine. This dataset published in GBIF platform intends to share the information contained in the GBDC of NHMM, Mozambique, in order to foster its access and use by specialists, and thus increase our collective knowledge on Bivalves and Gastropods.
