Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco) trees from old-growth Italian plantations (IBBR-DOUGLAS-FIR)

Abstract

Genomic DNA has been extracted from 718 Douglas fir trees from 29 planting sites across Italy (from the Eastern Alps to the Southern Apennines to Sicily and Sardina). Most sampled stands are old plantations established in the 1920s-1930s (about 90-100 years old), while several others are 40-50 years old. The project’s main goal is to establish the genetic origin of the propagation material used in afforestation using SSR markers.
